So far, the investigations hadn't turned up much, and he hoped that his Spider-counterpart was having better luck with the girlfriends than he'd had with the one he'd tried to talk to. Apparently being "not the police, I swear!" while dressed like a giant spider who was constantly thrown under a bus by the Daily Bugle still didn't convince anyone! Who knew? The safehouse that Rhodey had pulled was also a bust, he'd just been there and there was no evidence of anyone having been there in months, tomorrow he'd check out the restaurant and see if they had any leads that he could use. This was all sort of new to him, this detective work. Facing down giant lizards didn't call for quite this level of sleuthing, but he liked it. Somewhere, in the back of his mind, he wondered if refining this skill might one day help him figure out what happened to his parents. He wanted to know, he felt he needed to, even if he supposed he didn't really consider them his parents anymore. They would always be his mother and father -- but Aunt May and Uncle Ben, they raised him. They put in extra hours to pay for school trips and his first camera, they taught him the value of friendship, of being a good person, of responsibility. Lessons he'd never forget, and lessons that sometimes made his life just a little bit harder. Ever since he'd gotten back together with Gwen, he knew that he wasn't respecting her father's wishes. He'd come to terms with that, because he understood that he couldn't make Gwen's decisions for her. She had the ability to make her own choices and those needed to be respected to. But he had a responsibility to keep her safe, and knowing how hardheaded she was, how stubborn, and how Gryffindor she was -- Well, as long as they were together, his dangerous situations would be her dangerous situations. That's what he didn't want, and what kept him up at night. He couldn't make the choice between being with her and being Spider-man, he loved her too much. There had to be a compromise somewhere, he knew that other Peter and Mary Jane were happy, so they must have found it. But he had no idea what it was or how to make it work. He was so lost in his own thoughts as he swung almost silently between buildings that he almost didn't notice the two men standing beneath the fire escape light, near the side exit of what appeared to be (from the sound and vibrations of a thudding baseline) a nightclub. Peter swung in and stuck to the side of the building, just outside the ring of light, and crawled down to get a better look. Ah. Your typical Friday night drug deal. "Hey come on guys." Spider-man shouted from the shadows, "I was enjoying the music! It was nice!" Two weblines shot down, one sticking the intended buyer to the wall behind him, the other attaching his intended client to the fire escape. Spider-man dropped down off the wall, and shot too more weblines onto the seller, fixing his wrists to the walls before he tried to pull any weapons. "Nope, sorry Butch Cassidy, I've got no time for a show down." He spun on his heels to face the young man being sold the drugs, and stopped in the middle of his "Sundance Kid" quip finale. He'd know those ridiculous blue eyes anywhere. He recognised him. It was Harry. For a second he didn't know what to do at all -- he couldn't believe Harry was out here, that he was buying drugs, that any of this was real. Of course he'd heard stories and seen rumours in tabloids but this was -- how could he have missed this? Spider-man looked at Harry, finally just raising a finger and wagging in in Osborn's face. "I'll deal with you in a minute." He leap back onto the wall, climbed up to the roof of the building and shot another line down to catch Harry by the shoulders. Then he pulled him up to the roof, cutting the first line off him when he was high enough. They were going to have a little talk about this, about the drugs, but not in front of anyone else. Once Harry was safely hoisted up, Spider-man just looked at him and sighed. "Aw, C'mon." |
