I have to say this city lives up to its reputation in ways I hadn't even previously dreamed of. I'm not often surprised and when it happens I tend to relish it.

[Joan Watson]

I have barely gotten the chance to talk to you since my arrival. I'd almost think you were avoiding me.

[Nick Fury (616)]

Was it everything you'd dreamed it'd be? I'd hate to think I disappointed.

[Sharon Carter (616)]

You've been on my mind, Ms. Carter.

In the way of what, exactly? I have no network, no sway. I have an entirely blank slate in this world, starting from scratch. So I'm unsure what you think you might be inhibiting.

As for beating me, that simply makes me intrigued. Despite what you might think I am not a sore loser. All you did was set me back. And sometimes a setback is exactly what one needs to reevaluate the course.

I won't pretend to know why you do most of the things you do. But there isn't much in your history that I wouldn't do my best to prevent you from pursuing.

I, for my part, would prefer not to think of it as a game.

That you know of my history. Which you know very little of.

A game is all life ever has been.

I'm pretty clear on the last two years. They've been well-documented.

Why?

That you are cleared for, yes.

And that is a question for the philosophers isn't it? It would seem we have a few in our ranks.

Well, I already know Sherlock has kept you apprised on my dating life.

I'm not really interested in the ego-stroking, or the cat-and-mouse thing, or the intellectual mutual masturbation.

He is helpful like that.

Oh it's far more simple than that, Joan. Life is a game. It's not noble or for a higher purpose, with chance and skill in equal measure applied. And just as in an actual game, fairness is relative and the rules change.
