Who: RHODEY!!!!!! & Tony Stark
When: Saturday Evening
Where: JFK Airport
What: Pick-up & Dinner
Rating: PG
Tony Stark stood by the arrival gate at the airport, holding a white sign which he'd writen "RHODEY" on in large bubble letters. Stark wasn't sure exactly what Rhodes had been off doing -- he'd been almost too preoccupied with the home front to hack into Jim's mission objectives. But none of that mattered as the fact Jim was finally home. Tony had missed him, and the truth of the matter was that he actually felt a bit lost without having his best friend about as a sounding board. He had JARVIS, sure, but sometimes it was nice to have an opinion from something he hadn't programmed. He waited, rocking back and forth on his heels until he saw the soldier wandering towards the gate, lugging a suitcase behind him and carrying a briefcase, the contents of which Stark was very, very familiar with. Jim's eyes caught the sign before they moved up and met Tony's. He smirked, quickened his pace and got past security to where Stark was waiting. "Hey there." Stark said, smiling and ducking his head towards his chin to glance over of his sunglasses give Rhodes a once over. "Colonel James Rhodes? Your car is waiting." "My car." Rhodes replied. "Is this really my car -- or is this the car I get to sit in and look at for a while just in case I forgot how rich you were while I was gone?" "Both, if you play your cards right." Stark murmured, pushing his sunglasses back up his nose just as Jim opened an arm to give his friend a quick hug. He reached out a hand to take one of Jim's bags from him, the briefcase which he knew contained a modified version of the Iron Patriot armour, and noticed that Jim actually seemed reluctant, for just a second, before he handed over the case to Stark. Tony immediately passed it off as a reflex, but it was definitely one that he noticed. "I've never been much of a card player, Tony." Rhodey said, "but Happy Thanksgiving." "Sure." Stark said, turning towards the exit and tapping Jim on the back with the briefcase to guide him. He smirked slightly and looked up at the high ceilings overhead before grinning to him and sending a sideways glance in Rhodey's direction. "You too. You know, you're not going to believe what I've been getting up to when I tell you." |
