What: Meeting and getting tea
Rating: G
Status: Complete.
It had honestly been a decent week for Lily Potter. Despite all of the rather depressing things she’d learned about her family’s future upon arrival through the Tesseract, she had been able to speak with old friends, and most importantly her husband had shown up. The thought that James was there and waiting in the flat when she returned was honestly one of the best aspects to the entire week. She knew that she was smiling more and had a lighter spring in her step now that James was here. However, he was working his way through the books and while Lily wanted to be around so that he’d be able to ask her questions or share frustrations or even have an entire rant if need be, she was also finding that she needed to get out of the flat occasionally and so she’d told James she was going to run out to the Timeless Tea Shop. She wasn’t leaving the tower, so he could text her if he wanted her to come back, and she wouldn’t be too long anyway, she swore. The Timeless Tea Shop was one of her favorite places in the tower and it wasn’t just the tea that she liked, but the entire atmosphere. It seemed more serene and less rushed than Java Moment, and she’d frequently found herself there just sitting and reading in the corner. But right now she was on the mission of tea for herself and a small break from the flat, and then return to James. She stepped into line behind a woman who was slightly shorter than she was with brown hair that was done up in a somewhat elaborate style. For an instant Lily didn’t pay any attention to her and then she took a second glance. “Merlin’s Beard, you’re Princess Leia, aren’t you?” The words came out before Lily could think and then she slapped her hand over her mouth. “I’m so sorry,” she apologized. “That was really - I mean, if you are her you’re probably sick of that, and if you aren’t her you’re probably more sick of that, believe me I get it all the time - Amy Pond, no I am not!” Leia had been in somewhat of a daze since most of her family had suddenly disappeared along with Siri. Even though it seemed rather hard to believe at first, she had grown attached to Jania and was enjoying getting to know her youngest child despite her sadness at the future she’d discovered he had waiting for him. She’d been getting by though because that’s what she did. Leia had been through a lot in her twenty years of existence and while this place had certainly shaken her confidence, she wasn’t going to let it beat her. On this particular day, she decided to stop by the tea shop when she returned from work since it was a perfect day for a nice cup of tea and Leia had discovered she preferred the tea of this world to what they called coffee. When she heard the voice behind her, she turned to see a red haired woman who looked about her own age. “Yes, I’m Leia,” she said with a tired smile. “and I do get it a lot but I’ve kind of gotten used to it. I’m guessing you’re not Amy Pond whoever that is but what’s your name?” The woman seemed nice enough and Leia figured she must be a refugee like herself since she had referenced having a face twin, something that was unique to the Tower as far as Leia knew. “I don’t think I’ll ever get used to this place,” Lily said with a smile. “I didn’t even think about seeing people that I recognized, but I saw the films a while back during a summer. Well, a while back in my time, which is not exactly the same thing I guess as a while back considering that when I come from it’s October 1981.” She paused her tirade and smiled at Leia. “I’m Lily, Lily Potter. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Lily realized she hadn’t really spent much time getting to know people who weren’t from her own reality. She’d talked to a few - including her face twin - but she hadn’t met many, so she supposed she might as well use the opportunity to talk to Leia and get to know her a little. Plus, it was Princess Leia. She offered her a large smile. “Have you been here long?” “It’s nice to meet you, Lily,” replied Leia with a smile. She could already tell that she was going to like this woman. It was hard not to. “1981. I have no idea how that translates in my own time. I gave up trying to figure that out not long after I got here.” Leia had looked up a few things on the computer and knew the years the films had been released but still had not actually watched them. All she knew about them she’d learned from her family. “I’ve been here since May,” she said in answer to Lily’s question. “although I was here before they tell me. I’m not sure if you’ve been here before or not but if you have and you come back, you don’t remember anything. Which is strange because people remember me yet to me they’re strangers. It’s hard to get used to. It’s also rather strange to meet your children and find that one is older than you are.” Leia laughed and shook her head. “That was quite a shock.” “Well, isn’t it a long time ago and all that?” Lily countered. “I seem to recall that’s what it said on the film when we watched it, but I could be mis-remembering. It doesn’t really give you much idea of how it matches to this one though.” Lily nodded. “I’ve been here before as well,” she said with a quick smile. “I think Dorcas said more than once. She’s my best friend and she’s been here for quite a while. Fortunately my husband James just showed up and so I’ve been trying to get him acclimated to this place, although it does take a bit of getting used to. There are all sorts of things we’ve learned that we weren’t expecting.” “Yes that’s what it says although I’m not sure what their definition of a long time ago is considering what I’ve learned of Earth’s history we’re a lot more advanced as far as technology.” Leia wasn’t trying to sound as if she felt superior because that wasn’t the case at all. She was simply stating the facts as she knew them. “but no it doesn’t really match at all. We called our months by different names, the holidays are all totally different. Like the one that’s coming up...Halloween? I had never heard of it before I came here.” Although it seemed that people did wear costumes for it and many people dressed like her. In the iron bikini that Anakin had mentioned. Leia was not pleased about that. “It’s good that you have your husband with you. I’m sure that makes it a lot easier for you,” Leia smiled. “My brother is here although I didn’t know he was my brother until I got here. The woman he married eventually is here too so they’re really the only family I have with me now. Everyone else has been here but is gone now.” There was also Obi-Wan but Leia wasn’t sure where he fit in her idea of family. He was sort of a force unto himself...no pun intended. “You’ve got spaceships and the like,” Lily pointed out. “And we don’t have any of that sort of thing - well not at the level that the Millenium Falcon stands with.” Although it was probably good to not have a Death Star around, she thought, stopping at saying so as she realized it probably wouldn’t be the best thing for her to remind Leia of and with that thought it suddenly hit her that she and Leia had that in common - a lot of loss in their lives. It wasn’t particularly a pleasant thought and it was terribly odd to think about Princess Leia as a real person rather than as a film character, but suddenly Lily couldn’t help but feel sympathetic. “It’s so nice to have James here and Dorcas, and Severus…” she hesitated uncertain exactly what to call Severus. “At least there are some familiar faces. My future Daughter-in-law is here as well, but I don’t know her very well and my son isn’t here, and so that’s a bit interesting. I really ought to see about taking her to dinner though. If nothing else she can tell me everything there is to know about my son and my grandchildren.” She grinned. “And Harry won’t be here to say ‘oh don’t tell her about that’, so I ought to take advantage of that I suppose.” She stepped forward with the line and tilted her head at Leia. “You said other people had been here but were gone now?” Leia nodded. “All three of my children were here although not all at the same time. And my future husband, Han Solo, he’s been here more than once as well. He was here when I first arrived but then left and came back but left again.” It had been very confusing for her since they both remembered her being in love with them and she was definitely not in love with Han at this point in her life. My parents were here a while ago, before me actually. Well I was here then but that wasn’t me..it was...I guess another me? My grandmother was even here not long ago with my father as an infant. Now that was odd.” She hadn’t had the chance to spend much time with Shmi and Leia regretted that. Unless Shmi returned, she wouldn’t have another chance since the woman had been long dead when Leia was born from what Obi-Wan had told her. She laughed as Lily mentioned getting to know her future daughter in law. “That sounds like a good plan! She can tell you everything you need to know. I’m sure you’re curious. I would be. Well I was actually once I got over the shock of seeing my future children.” “Oh my,” Lily exclaimed. “I guess, I mean, I’ve only seen the first film, although I’ve heard there are others? At any rate I didn’t know that you had children, or that you married Han Solo. Although, between you and me, who wouldn’t? He’s quite attractive isn’t he?” It hadn’t really occurred to her what might happen if Petunia showed up, or her parents. She’d been so focused on Harry and James that the idea of having relatives from way in the future or way in the past showing up hadn’t occurred as an idea even. She supposed it was a possibility though and she considered Leia with a smile. “I keep hoping my son will show up, but I hadn’t really considered the rest of my family. I do have grandchildren as well, and my sister and her husband and son and I don’t know Dudley at all really so that could be interesting.” Particularly considering that if Petunia were to get pulled through the tesseract she’d probably be horrified at the oddness of it all. Or maybe she’d just be pleased that she’d been invited as well. Lily knew well how much her sister had wanted to go to Hogwarts and how hurt she’d been not to get the chance. “There are six movies all together,” Leia replied. “and a whole series of novels. I believe that Han and I actually get together in the novels from what I’ve been told. I haven’t watched the movies to be honest. I’ve just looked up some things on the computer.” There was so much out there that Leia knew she’d never be able to keep track of it all. “I’m betting there are some things I don’t want to know so I’m kind of avoiding most of it to be quite honest.” They had reached the counter and Leia placed her order and then stepped out of the way so Lily could order. “Where are you from?” she asked when Lily had finished. “what I mean is what part of Earth are you from?” Leia had noted the other woman’s accent but had been unable to place it. It wasn’t local, she was certain of that. “I understand,” Lily said softly. “Sometimes I wish I could have avoided it a bit more, but at the same time I’m not certain it would have worked for me. People seem to like to talk to me about various things and at any rate, the biggest bit got told to me when I first arrived, and I decided after that, that I did want to read the books and find out everything. In some ways it’s better than not knowing I think.” Lily stepped up and placed her own order and then stepped back to the side to wait for the drink to be made. “England,” she gave Leia a smile. “It’s across the ocean from here, small-ish Island country, but we’ve always held our own.” “People did that to me too when I first got here. Thankfully though once I posted on the network, some of my family saw it and asked me if I’d like to hear it from them so that was good. It was much easier to hear it from them than from strangers.” And it not been easy to hear at all. Leia still remembered the pain she’d felt when she’d learned about her birth parents and about the brother she had never known existed. Not to mention the fact that she more than halfway in love with said brother at the time. God. At least nothing had happened between her and Luke which would have certainly been a disaster. “Earth seems like a very big planet,” Leia observed. “I can’t get over that. I’m not sure how it compares to Alderaan where I grew up but it certainly seems bigger and definitely more diverse.” The people of Alderaan were human, there were few aliens there and those that did come there usually had some sort of business on the planet. “I wish I had the time and money to travel and see some of Earth while I’m here although who knows how long that will be.” “Oh me too,” Lily exclaimed. “I’ve hardly been out of my house because, well where I come from there’s a war happening and my husband and son and I are targets so travelling around much isn’t an option. Well, I suppose if we did nothing but travel it might be -” Perhaps that would have even been better, but it would have drained their resources much more quickly, Lily knew. She bit her lip and shrugged. “Perhaps we’ll have some time to travel a bit when we’re here. I’ve got to get some sort of regular job sorted first though.” Her drink was pushed towards her on the bar and Lily stepped up to reach for it. “I suppose this is me and I ought to get back to see what James is up to. It was really nice meeting you, though Leia. A little surreal, but then that’s been most of this place, I’ll admit,” she flashed Leia a smile. “I’ll see you around!” |
