Alright. I think maybe it's time to actively address this whole employment issue, since obviously we're not going home anytime soon-

It works very differently where I'm from, so if there's anyone from a similar society willing to help, I'd greatly appreciate it. I completed my education two years ago when I was 16, but it seems that schooling lasts longer in other places- including this one. I'm 18-19 (18 in my world which was about five months in the past, and 19 here), I've gone through extensive combat training and also trained others to harness similar skills, studied a great deal about the psychological effects of fear, and I also worked extensively with computers for about a year- programming, code-writing (and breaking), etc. I suppose some sort of job that employs any or all of these skills would be ideal, but I'm not really sure what those jobs would be. I have been trying to get a grasp of what the "job market" is like here (as evidenced by my use of the term "job market" since we don't really use it at home), but I feel like I could easily waste time that should be spent actually applying to jobs by doing that, when some of you might be able to offer advice.

Besides jobs applicable to those skills though, any suggestions for jobs that aren't completely mind-numbing are welcome.

I've also gotten the sense that in this world, most people my age go to college. Is that required, and if not, what are the benefits? It seems like most of the programs last for four years, and I hope we won't- I'm not sure I'll really be here for that long, so I don't know if there's much sense in that option.

I know that was really boring, so if anyone actually bothered to read it, I'll try to do something useful for you in return.

I know you guys don't really know much more about this stuff than I do, but do you have any idea what I could do here?

I did try to look up more about Stark Enterprises and SHEILD, but unsurprisingly there's nothing that really speaks about the actual character of the institutions...basically I just want some sort of assurance that I won't be working for a bunch of Jeanine types, and I'm not sure that I'll be able to get that.

Yeah, I did think about that, since that's kind of the most comparable thing, but I'm pretty sure I'm too young to be one. I think I'd have to go to some sort of police academy, and like with the college thing, I just don't know if that's worth it. Also, the things they do in police academy sound like they'd be extremely redundant.

But maybe. After a certain point I think I just need to pick something.

Do you want to do something like what you might have done/been doing in Dauntless before everything went to hell? Or would you rather do something a bit different? I found a certification class for Rock Wall Climbing Instructors. Looks like it's only a few days training for $350 (is that a lot?) and then you'd just get to teach people to rock climb. Low key, you know. I don't know, I was thinking of getting certified and working part-time at this place called Brooklyn Boulders. I want to do something other than school with my time.

It's heights, yeah, but there are rope things that keep people from falling. Harnesses? But if that is a deal-breaker, there are also things like being a fitness trainer or something. I bet there's short certification for that, too. Just some thoughts.

I don't now, exactly. I did sort of like being an instructor, even if I didn't agree with all of the aspects of the program. Different might be interesting though, we don't really have so many choices back home, it might be good to make use of them here. $350 probably isn't too bad if the training will get you a job and then you can earn it back anyway. Is Brooklyn Boulders a rock-climbing place?

Well, having a harness does sound pretty tame compared to, oh, I don't know, climbing a rusty, broken-down ferris wheel. Still not sure if I'd like doing that everyday though. Maybe I could try just rocking-climbing first before I signed up for any class. I think you'll enjoy it though.

I was actually just thinking that I might want to do something...Abnegation-like, because, well, you and everyone else heard what I said in Candor. I don't want anything to do with politics, but it seems like there's a lot of charities and things in New York. They might have some paid positions.

Yeah, I've been looking up more stuff online- I think I might be interested in working for this 'Boys and Girls Club of New York City' organization.

It's an organization that runs a countrywide after school program for kids. Most of the kids are underprivileged and a lot of them lack positive role models in their lives, especially if there parents aren't really there for them, so it has a 'big brother/sister program' but it also provides a lot of other activities and stuff. They're looking for an athletics supervisor in the city, so I think I'll apply for that. I just think it sounds like a really good program.

Interesting. Sounds lovely and almost perfect for you, I think.
