Alright, so. Good movies to show on Memorial Day? Give me your suggestions. I'm coming up with a list of as many good replacement options as possible before I go to the Mayor's office to politely contest their current choice.

Is it too soon to show Independence Day?

That's one I'd happily put on the list even if other people think it's too early. Don't those always come out on Memorial Day weekend anyways?

Usually, because it's supposed to represent "summer." Um - Terminator? Blade Runner? Jaws?

Not as 'patriotic' as they're likely going for, but Jaws would get people in the mood for summer. In a weird way...

In a 'stay off the beach' way, maybe. What movie do they want to show?

Luckily we're not big on beaches here.

American Sniper.

That's -- I've never seen it?

Honestly, I haven't either because of choice rather than chance. I know enough about it though and the effect it's had on people to try and see if maybe they can show something else that isn't a retelling of the life of America's most successful sniper. Especially with Ramadan

Well, there's always something epic. Mad Max?

Definitely added. Although which one?

The new one? Might be too radical for this town.

This town could possibly do with some of that radical maybe.

Sharks really aren't very scary.

Jaws isn't just ANY shark though.

It's silly. Humans don't even taste good.

Ok, Jaws isn't as unrealistic as say, Jurassic Park?

They really aren't. There are worse things in the sea to actually be scared of. The movie really doesn't do them justice.

Jellyfish.

Which, ironically, are out of control because humans are killing all the sharks that usually keep them in check.

Luckily my experience with jellyfish is limited to the aquarium and my closest encounters being holding the water tubes they have the little ones in for display. But I've heard the horror stories.
