Network Post: Phèdre nó Delaunay
Greetings to you, people of Tumbleweed. I am Phèdre nó Delaunay de Montrève. I've been sequestered for some days now as I learn about this land and how to begin living in it. I feel more ready now to begin making your acquaintance.

I've consulted the maps and history summaries, and it appears my homeland of Terre d'Ange shares its geography and many features with "France," and the greater land of Europa with "Europe." Someday I may determine precisely when things became so different while still sharing somewhat that is considered historic here. For instance, your "Jesus Christ" appears to be Yeshua ben Yosef, whose spilled blood mingled with the Magdalene's tears in the womb of the Earth to beget Elua; Blessed Elua and his Companions have no counterpart that I've yet found. Your "Roman" Empire made conquests where our Tiberians were driven back. This place is on a continent I never knew existed, if it does exist in my world.

I'm already quite fond of the baths. I'm accustomed many buckets of heated water poured into the tub if one wants any warmth. There is much that is different, but the pleasure of a hot bath isn't lost to me.

My deepest thanks to Mesdames Tano and Wells for their continued assistance, especially upon my arrival. Your patience with me has gone far towards alleviating my bewilderment with this world. I will, of course, begin to pay Madame Wells for my accommodations and the use of her wardrobe as soon as I acquire local currency. Perhaps to start with, someone would purchase the coins I carry for their metal? They have no value here as currency, but I have some silver and gold.

Yes, Queen Ysandre de la Courcel. She oft reminds me to address her as Ysandre.

I've had more than enough sea travel for my lifetime, though I fear there's still more ahead of me. Is he to be declared the royal consort, then, or may he become your betrothed?

I think I would greatly enjoy meeting her, if she were to arrive here.

Now that you are here, I expect there are a great many adventures ahead of you, by land or by sea. I, at least, find that an exciting prospect. But at the end of it I do look forward to returning to my country, and my betrothed. We shall have to settle the matter of an heir to the throne somehow, but I am determined to find a way.

I'd enjoy observing that meeting. She rarely gets to speak to other heads of state peer to peer, rather than representing our country.

Would he (and your country) object to you taking another lover to conceive an heir? If they needn't be an heir of your blood, a foster child? Or perhaps another alternative, do you have any siblings? Ysandre is married to Drustan of Alba, and their inheritance is matrilineal. His sister's child will inherit his throne in Alba, not his own offspring.

Yes, it is a rare novelty available only in this world. I am not the only royal here, and setting matters of state aside was already a tradition amongst the others when I arrived.

I think the country would accept it. The harder thing would be accepting it ourselves, since neither of us would want to use someone only for that purpose, and that means finding someone we could both love. And the reverse is true for a foster; I think both of us would readily take a child into our homes and hearts, but many people in the country have ideas about bloodlines. Both of us have brothers, but mine, Kell, doesn't want the throne and I doubt he wants to see his child on it either, if he ever has a child. And both of us agree that Alucard's brother, although he is technically next in line, would make a terrible king. Nor would he make a very good husband, or father, and thankfully, no one has made the mistake of marrying him yet. But I suppose it is still possible that if he had a child, it could be different from him, and might not be a terrible choice.

I certainly don't suggest treating a woman as a brood mare, but I have known men to have a different love with the mothers of their heirs than their love for their male companions. Of course, I am D'Angeline. For us, it isn't uncommon to have multiple lovers and share many kinds of love.

No, I've no wish to use anyone. The problem is that without the need for an heir, I would be happy just with him. So [...] navigating that will be tricky.

Have you had a relationship involving more than one person? Did you find that it worked for you?
