Between the ball and the birthday parties, it's been a very social weekend.

Is anybody interested in battling their pokemon?

[Private to Charlie Weasley]

We didn't get much change to talk at the ball. How are you doing, my friend?

[Private to Sherlock Holmes (BBC)]
I haven't heard from you in a long while. Not since the cruise, actually. Is everything alright?

I try not to subject myself to the network very often unless it's for light reading. Makes for a suitable replacement of the Daily Mail.

How's Cloak?

With all the gossip, you mean?

Cloak was the one who wanted me to write to you to see how you were doing.

Yes. It's entertaining to a point; otherwise, it's a distraction.

Really? You should teach them how to text.

Interesting. If you don't check it that often, then I must've been very lucky since I wrote to you exactly at the right time when you checked the network. You replied so quickly.

The Cloak only makes its thoughts known through non-language communication.

Great! I don't think we've been introduced? My name is Dr Stephen Strange. May I ask what's your name and what sort of pokemon do you have?

What does battling pokemon entail?

I don't have one, I'm just curious.

Pokemon is a mash-up between the two words pocket and monster. It's a game that originated in Japan. Essentially, they are creatures with widely different shapes, sizes, and abilities. Some of them also have this propensity to fight. A couple of months ago, before you arrived, the Displaced had been taken to an island where pokemon live, and we were able to bring one back with us, if we wished. You may have noticed my pokemon when you came to the Sanctum - a greyish black fox with red tufts of fur? He was watching you from across the room.

In any case, two trainers may engage their pokemon in battles. It's been said that the bond between pokemon and trainer are deepened in battle, because they understand one another, trust one another, and form closer attachments, which one may not achieve any other way. The two pokemon face off one another in a field that looks a little like a basketball court. The trainers stand on either side and call out what moves the pokemon ought to use against its opponent. The battle is over when one of the pokemon is knocked unconscious.

I did notice the fox, yes.

And the pokemon go with their trainers... willingly?

There's plenty of drama around without anybody adding to it. Especially at a party.

The bonsai pokemon.

Are you sure it's a baby, or are you gauging it by its size?

No, we unfortunately did not. It was a decent gathering, wasn't it?

I'm doing alright. Been a bit focused on the Pit and Snow and the kids so I haven't been getting out as much. What about you?

It was nice. I ended up in the library where I buried my nose into a very interesting book on elemental magic. I'd lost all track of time, and Alucard found me as he was making the rounds, shooing stragglers from the party away.

How is Snow doing? Everything going well between you two? Anything new happening at the Pit?

Working at the Magic Box is a drag, but it brings in the money. And the owner has a very hands-off approach, so I'm essentially able to manage the shop as I see fit, which includes ordering new merchandise - that's not bad. Seeing all these local people coming into the shop, browsing and curious about magic and witchcraft makes me want to approach them and ask if they would really like to learn, but I know that would attract far too much attention to the Displaced, and be more of a headache than it's worth. But I try to guide them as best I can.
