'Captive' meaning literally or figuratively? 😉

How does that work?

I guess it depends on the audience.

Well, I lived a life that both happened and didn’t back home and I remember it still. But I didn’t physically age to the memory upgrade I got, so...

Wink wink, nudge nudge, know what I mean?

I've heard about those memory upgrades before. They can be really heavy.

An interest of yours?

It actually was really good for me. I mean, it was a lot, but it wasn’t bad.

Depends on my mood.

Good for you. Whenever I've heard of somebody getting memories, it's usually a negative experience.

I'll keep it in mind.

Yeah. Some of it was really bad, but the life that was both lived and not lived made up for it. Happiness is achievable and that's what I'm choosing to hold onto out of the whole thing.

That's the sort of attitude I'm always aiming for. It might not work all the time, but it's the ideal.

Yeah. I'm not usually very good at it (okay, I'm usually horrible at it), so seeing it and knowing it was good for me.

I'm glad. You deserve it, goodness in your life.

I'm aware of that now. Only took me 24 years to figure it out.

Yeah.

If you ever want to hang out outside of parties and Rocky Horror things, you should let me know. I can show you some magic.

Nothing at the moment outside of grading and living in danger of taking too many pictures of the kittens.

How about we hang together? There's got to be something interesting to do. If not, I could always teleport us to one of the larger cities, like Dallas or Austin?

I'm definitely down. I've never been teleported by anyone but Penny. This is already the best So if we can't figure out something here, that should be fine. I feel like there's like one night club and five million Starbucks and a museum. I guess it depends on what kind of hang out. There's probably an amusement park somewhere. I got a lot of Christmas money, so whatever's fine.

We might want to do a practice run before we go. The way I teleport, people who I take along for the first time sometimes feel a bit queasy, afterward.

Is that what you'd be in the mood for? An amusement park? Night club? I'd be down with that. Because I just googled Fun Things To Do in Dallas, and I'm getting a lot of museums and gardens.

I'm fine with that. Queasy isn't something that's probably stopped me often.

Well, it'd be more fun than the gardens and museums unless you like those. I'm pretty sure libraries and bookstores aren't where you take people.

If you're not doing anything at the moment, I can teleport over and let you try it out?

Gardens and museums, not so much. Nightclubs and bars, yes. Live theater and stage performances, definitely!

I'm not, so that should be fine. Unless you're attempting to teleport into my bedroom, though, I might go outside.

Then we'll go with that. Maybe with more time we can plan a live theater adventure. I mean besides me on the stage in fishnets and a corset.

I haven't been inside your bedroom yet, so I'd rather not take the chance of teleporting directly there. If I don't know the layout of a room, it could get messy. Think of how Harry Potter people apparate and the dangers of 'slicing'.

Now there's a mental image! Ha! Is there anything you'd like to see?

Splicing? But yeah. The Cottage is at [Address]. I'll wait outside.

It's something to think about, I feel. Um. I'm not really the person to know things outside of whatever Eliot likes. So if there's something you want to see, you'd probably know better what would be good.

Guess you haven't read the books. It's when you teleport in the same place where something else is located, and you and that thing (or person) merge together in a very painful and awkward way.

I know the area. I'll be there, shortly.

I'm sure we can work something out.

I've read them. It's been a while and I'm more familiar with the Fillory and Further books.

All right.

To be perfectly honest, I've never heard of those books before.
