While Leo and I are enjoying our one on one lessons, I would love to have more students to teach.

So EPS students who think German is overrated (all the love to you, Rogue and Gaby!), come to my French class.

I also have only one student, in Russian, and more are certainly welcome to attend, though I've no interest in competing between teachers. I'm very new to the position.

This is my first time to take a language. I didn't take Latin because my fath Eliot seemed interested in teaching me himself. I just sort of picked at random. I didn't know Earth had so many languages.

It was one of the languages recommended to me by the people here as the one that many spoke - at least amongst our group - which is why it is one of the first I learned here. I have yet to encounter a Russian speaker outside of our group of travelers. There are indeed a great many languages represented here, and none of them are the ones I knew at home, except for English.

I am very glad to have you as a student, and the benefit of having just the one student is that it is easy for me to offer you any extra help that you need.

I have not heard differing languages before in the Fairy Realm or Fillory. It is entirely possible that I have just not been around those who speak different languages. I have heard a tree language that I cannot speak and Latin here, though I'm not always sure which is which. They both sound foreign to me.

Eliot said that I had to take a language, so I picked one that didn't seem as popular. I need help in very many subjects. I can read and write and I understand the basics of fairy deals, but Earth school is different from school in the Fairy Realm. It is more detailed and contains more subjects.

I've heard of Latin, but not a tree language. Both would still sound foreign to me.

School here is different from the schooling I received in Arnes, although I would not say it is typical in Arnes to have private tutors as I did. I don't know how much use I would be in helping you with your other subjects, but I could certainly give it a try. There are likely also tutors who specialize in their individual subjects who might be able to help you more.

I had not heard of either before.

Most likely. I would rather spend my time on my friend's farm. I'm told, though, that I do not have a choice in going to school, so I can't do that instead.

I hadn't heard of either one before coming here, either. This is a world full of new languages for me.

School will have holidays and eventually you will be graduate, and then you'll hopefully be able to do what you want. Farming might be a job you could have in the future, I really don't know what the availability is for that here.

It would be nice if I could graduate now. I am not sure, but I could always ask if I could.

You could certainly ask. But education is something you might find very useful in the future, and I think you would be doing yourself a disservice not to take the opportunity.

It's possible. I haven't found anything that binds me to it or makes me happy to be there as of yet. Still, I suppose it could be worse.

Is there anything in particular that would help you to find it more engaging? I don't know how much leeway I have, but I could certainly try.

I don't know. I'm not sure if there's something or if there isn't.

I'll come up with some ideas, and we can try them if you're interested, and you can let me know if they work for you.

Friendly competition, friend. Mostly to poke fun at a few friends. You teach Russian? I'm not an expert at it, but I'm passable.

Naturally, and I am not afraid of friendly competition, but I am egotistical enough to prefer that I at least stand a slim chance of winning.

I do teach Russian, and it is a language I've learned only in the last few months, but I pick up languages very quickly. I do not yet know French, although I did manage to translate your friend's words up there using an online dictionary.

If you ever feel like sitting in on a few classes, I would welcome it. It's not as difficult as some other languages could be, so if you could pick up Russian in some months, French should be of no issue.

I would love that, actually. I want to learn every language this world has to offer, although at some point it seems as though my mind might reach a point where it can't handle another.

I have a lot of practice with learning languages, and it helps when I have a fluent teacher and a lover who is also learning and willing to speak it with me regularly.

How many languages do you already know? I'm happy to have him sit in as well. Though it's less sitting in and more traveling to French speaking areas to immerse in the language, with the occasional classroom setting.

I had eleven before coming here, of which the only one spoken here seems to be English, and have added passing fluency in Russian, and to a slightly lesser degree, ASL. So I suppose my total right now is thirteen, more or less.

Traveling to French speaking areas is an excellent idea. Do you know of any Russian speaking areas nearby?

I believe my student would learn through the auditory experience, like one of his other teachers pointed out, so why not immerse him in the language and culture? It's not a traditional way to teach, but who says we can't make it a little more interesting?

As far as I'm aware, most of the countries where Russian is the official language or widely spoken are over in Europe, across the ocean. But most major cities will probably have a community of some size where the residents speak Russian as their native tongue.

Immersion in the language certainly helps. I never had that advantage growing up, although I did have tutors who only spoke to me in the language they were teaching. I think your student will very likely benefit from it.

I will look into that, perhaps for when we're a little further along.
