Does anyone who's already done some exploring have suggestions for the best hiking locations? Nothing that's going to kill me from difficulty or from other dangers, please.

Good to know, I will. Better to keep warm before we get up there. There's probably a liquor blanket it my future.

I dunno how helpful that'll be, chickpea. Liquids don't make good blankets.
