I really do hope my future in this new future has less needles going forward. That was unpleasant.

My name is Napoleon Solo and, while all of this is marvelous and fascinating in all of its aspects, I'm quite eager to locate my associate, Gabriella Teller, before I start asking more questions. I'm told she is here as well. She is approximately 5'5", brunette, brown eyes, impeccable fashion choices, stubborn, and bossy.

It's very likely she has punched someone by now and if that someone is you, well, I'm sure you deserved it.

Science type (who used to use facial recognition software at work, at that) says there are unrelated people who look essentially exactly alike even within the same universe, so it's not entirely surprising there would be from different universes too. Normally people just don't ever meet them. The chances seem to be higher here the same way most people who turn up have something that makes them more notable than the average person.

Nice of you to pop up when summoned.

I actually secretly live in the network. The public parts of it, anyway.

If we had the full internet I could find some of the websites that have cropped up where people can submit photos to find doppelgangers of themselves. Criminologists deal with it sometimes too, there was even a case where someone spent seventeen years in prison before they found someone who not only looked exactly like him, but had the same name as well.

You're a regular ghost in the machine, huh?

That kinda thing blows my mind a little.

Apparently River met a version of me who was some kind of technopath the last place she was.

Real life really is stranger than fiction, sometimes.

Some peoples lives are fiction.

Fair point.

Thank you, Science Type. While you are at it, would you mind expanding on that "different universes" thing you so casually mentioned?

Basically, any world you can possibly imagine probably exists somewhere, and for some reason people from a lot of them end up here together. The basic facts of reality for one person might be completely different than for someone else, so we've got people from worlds with magic and dragons, aliens, superheroes with cosmic powers, etc. Occasionally some of them are very close to each other and people will recognise each other but not remember things having happened the same way, and in a few cases there are different versions of the same person as well. I learned to suspend disbelief pretty quickly, but then I was already familiar with things like time travel and a bit of theoretical physics.

You are a verbose fellow, aren't you? This would be a lot harder to take in if I had not just experienced what I did. Though, I cannot say I understand, despite your careful explanation. I am willing to go with it, as it beats the alternative. Do you have a name, or shall I keep calling your Science Type?

Shorter explanations usually just mean more questions so I try to strike a balance from the start.

Ianto Jones.

You have a lot of experience with newcomers, I take it?

I am Gaby.

I've been doing this for over two years now. Back in Tumbleweed where we were before I wrote the pamphlets explaining the town and current technology that the military offered people.

I appreciate you assuming the role of my pamphlet, Ianto. I have not noticed a military presence on board. Is that only in the town you mentioned?

We seem to be the only actual people on board. The crew are all robots, if you ask them questions they aren't programmed for they'll just give the same sort of response over and over. So far it's just been in Texas.

Robots. Of course. Well, I suppose that explains the strange conversation I had with one of the stewards.
