Back to the normal schedule. Art students, I'll go easy on you talking about your break as long as I can see you working.

[Rogue (Marian Carlyle)]
I take it you got back for dinner alright.

What kind of art do you specialize in?

Literally anything. But my favourites are the impressionists and fauvists.

I enjoy fauvists as well! The colors are beautiful.

I mostly draw. Still life. Buildings, people I see. Hardly anything original.

I do a fair bit of sketching, but I love playing with colour and movement so when I've got the time I usually work with oils.

Realism doesn't mean it's less original.

I'd like to work with oils. Never got a chance. I guess now is as good as time as any.

It just feels less original.

It's a lot more accessible now. I never had them when I was a kid.

If you say so.

Me either.

I have self esteem issues. Thank you, Maya, for saying what you did.

That's [...] honest. I just have a lot of opinions about art. And most other things for that matter.

That's fine, I'd like to hear them.

Abstract and modern art are completely legitimate forms of creative expression.
So is beading.
And street art.
Schools should fund cultural and art programs as well as they do sports.
Portraits of white women, especially the Mona Lisa, are overrated.
Sometimes innovative thinking is more important than good execution.
Modern art directly benefited from the looting of cultural artifacts from Africa during colonialism and that really needs to be acknowledged in any discussion about the School of Paris and similar groups.
People need to stop painting Natives with feathers in their hair if they don't even know what it means.
One of the best things about the internet is that the ease of accessing original images is starting to turn artists back towards ephemeral work, just like the proliferation of cameras kickstarted experimentation with less photorealistic styles.

Also, Friends is a terrible tv show and I have no idea why everyone's started talking about it again.

Some of the street "graffiti" I've seen is better than some of the stuff I see in museums.

These are all very good points, Maya. I think I could learn a lot from you.

And I've never watched Friends. It's on Netflix, I somehow know that, though.

The best art is done by people who've spent time on the outskirts of society. Exactly the kind that don't have the contacts to get known in the industry, these days.

There are better shows. Though I don't watch much tv to start with.

The unknowns are where it's at.

Me either.
