Back to the normal schedule. Art students, I'll go easy on you talking about your break as long as I can see you working.

[Rogue (Marian Carlyle)]
I take it you got back for dinner alright.

Yup, in plenty of time. And then I couldn't move for a couple hours from all the food I ate.

I'm told that's the right way to do it.

No problem. I rarely turn down company.

You ever do that stuff here? The counting cards and all?

Haven't had much opportunity to consider it in the first place. I usually try to keep my more reckless entertainment separate though, especially since it's a lot harder to pack up and start over here.

That makes sense. I guess there aren't really too many places around here to do that kind of thing, either.

Probably a couple more now than when this place was a one horse town, but it's still a bit too small to get away with it. I'm used to big cities and reservations, not these in between places.

The closest city to here is Odessa, right? Or bigger than someplace like that?

I grew up mostly based in New York but I traveled a lot. Anything over about half a million is where I'm really comfortable. There are some nice places in Italy around the same size as Odessa though.

Tough call. I worked in Kyoto for a while and liked it a lot. Tuscany, Prague and Marseilles I think I could all visit fifty times and not see everything. Sometime I'd like to spend more time in places that don't have that major European cultural influence though. I like seeing new ways of doing things.

Oh I've been Kyoto! I was only there for about a day but it was nice. I think I like Vienna best, and probably Dublin, though I didn't get the chance to spend a lot of time in either place.

I've never done Ireland, actually. Originally it was just wherever gymnastics competitions were held, but after I retired I had the time to go back (with Wilson Fisk's money) to actually appreciate it.

Literally anything. But my favourites are the impressionists and fauvists.

I enjoy fauvists as well! The colors are beautiful.

I mostly draw. Still life. Buildings, people I see. Hardly anything original.

I do a fair bit of sketching, but I love playing with colour and movement so when I've got the time I usually work with oils.

Realism doesn't mean it's less original.

I'd like to work with oils. Never got a chance. I guess now is as good as time as any.

It just feels less original.

If you say so.

That's [...] honest. I just have a lot of opinions about art. And most other things for that matter.

Abstract and modern art are completely legitimate forms of creative expression.
So is beading.
And street art.
Schools should fund cultural and art programs as well as they do sports.
Portraits of white women, especially the Mona Lisa, are overrated.
Sometimes innovative thinking is more important than good execution.
Modern art directly benefited from the looting of cultural artifacts from Africa during colonialism and that really needs to be acknowledged in any discussion about the School of Paris and similar groups.
People need to stop painting Natives with feathers in their hair if they don't even know what it means.
One of the best things about the internet is that the ease of accessing original images is starting to turn artists back towards ephemeral work, just like the proliferation of cameras kickstarted experimentation with less photorealistic styles.

Also, Friends is a terrible tv show and I have no idea why everyone's started talking about it again.

Some of the street "graffiti" I've seen is better than some of the stuff I see in museums.

These are all very good points, Maya. I think I could learn a lot from you.

And I've never watched Friends. It's on Netflix, I somehow know that, though.

The best art is done by people who've spent time on the outskirts of society. Exactly the kind that don't have the contacts to get known in the industry, these days.

There are better shows. Though I don't watch much tv to start with.

That's what usually works for me. Words don't always feel natural to me still Sometimes it's easier than trying to find the right words, especially if you aren't quite sure what you're really feeling to start with.

That's... a good way to put it. I'm not used to drawing for anything but alchemy so it's different. Usually, I'd talk to my brother but that's not an option right now.
