Shopping was a total bust today. What the hell is going on? I saw somebody get jumped for leather boots.

This just sounds sad now. Like, all these people have to fight for stuff they couldn't afford on any other day? It's pretty shitty for stores to be holding off like that and playing with people.

So yours is about drinking and fighting.

That's capitalism for you. It's got its pros and cons. Funny thing is, that some research says that the deals on Black Friday aren't that big a deal, but the stores, like you say, play with people to get them all worked up.

Basically, yes.

Not seeing a lot of pros here, dude.

So weird.

I don't want to get too much into this, because somebody might latch on this conversation to start a comment war, which I'm trying to avoid. But usually, those who support capitalism say it gives consumers a variety to choose from, and increases quality. Okay, for example, I noticed you wrote to your friend that you like Coke and not Pepsi. Those are the two biggest cola companies, but there are others, and they're all competing for your money. So, they may put their product on sale, or have a special promotion, or come up with new flavors like Cherry Coke, or Diet Coke, or Vanilla Coke. In places without capitalism, there's usually no incentive for this, so you get one product and that's it, and if it happens to taste like Pepsi, then you're out of luck.

What you see in the United States is capitalism gone wild, with hyper-consumerism. Companies creating artificial needs for products that aren't necessary, but you're convinced they are through advertising. That, plus products aren't quality made, some of them are designed to wear out or break down, so you have to go out and get a new one every so often.

I'm so proud of my country right now.

[...] You mind if I come upstairs, actually? I have questions, and it's easier for me to learn stuff if it's verbal. Helps with taking notes.

At least it's calm somewhere.

I don't I'm not sure I'm the right bloke to ask about this sort of thing. I'm not an expert, and I might not have the answers you're looking for.

Not very long ago, I met a man who seemed lost. Despite his extraordinary abilities, he was forced away from what was familiar and stripped of the essential part of his identity — that is, what made him him. He needed guidance. A friend. Someone who understood what it was to be different.

Just a thought.

Because I think you're uniquely positioned to get through to him. You're alike, whether you want to admit it or not.

It's still your choice.

He isn't you, John. The similarities are [...] uncanny, but you're different.

If this makes you uncomfortable, you don't have to do it.
