Comically tragic levels of over eating followed by insane overspending aside, you people are aware this entire thing is a total economic ploy, right?

Whatever. Enjoy your turkey murder day.

No one cares about turkey all year, and then suddenly it's like everyone needs to have turkey to live. It's fucked up.

It's morphed into spending time with family and eating good food with family and friends for people. Turkey's just an easy image to associate with it. Sure, there's a lot of people that do it for the wrong reasons, spending time with people they're expected to out of some kind of obligation, but it's not always the case.

Last year, I was with my boyfriend and family and friends because I wanted to be. This year, I'm probably going to grab a sandwich and turn in early because I can't be with them. The turkey was never part of the equation, just a nice byproduct, just like people go nuts over pumpkins during early fall.

Okay.

But why? Why do people need to buy a big ass turkey, have seven different types of potato, brussel sprouts that no one likes, the most obscure vegetables and weird sauces? Why is the last feast going on when it's just another day?

Well, we have a table full of food because a lot of us have superpowers and need to have a higher calorie intake. And we don't have leftovers or if we do, they last maybe a day before they're gone too. And with all of us doing school or work, it's nice to have an excuse to take some time off and spend time together. You don't get a lot of opportunities to shoot the shit with everyone all at once often without an excuse.

Which, I realize, is not an issue for me anymore seeing as none of them are here.

You realise that you're normalising 'having an excuse' to appreciate the so-called people you're meant to care the most about, right? Like you can't just hang out for no fucking reason, there's got to be a commercialised thing going on?

And most people don't have a table full of super powered high calorie eaters, so more than half of those leftovers end up in the trash. And that's not even factoring in the amount of food waste from super-stores who over stock on one day just because a bunch of idiots decided thats the day you're meant to appreciate the fuckers in your life.

It's not always easy to get together with five, ten, or more people when you're not living in the same house. That's how it was for me back home. We were mainly split over three cities across the US, so yeah, it's easier on holidays when school and work give you time off at the same time.

But you seem pretty set on hating this particular holiday and I'm not sure what I'm trying to change here, so I think I'm good with ending this conversation. Have a good day, pal.
