Clones? Magic? Neural imprinting?

What would you have done had I actually been Odin?

Magic. Clones are a problem for spiders. You won't stop asking me until you get answers, will you?

Likely yelled at you to stay out of my life and out of my way. [...] Father has his good moments, but his acceptance of me comes with conditions. I was sick and tired of sides. If Asgard wants to fight another million wars, it can do so without me.

Would you?

Oh, bravo. I like you.

You know what? Fine. For all Thor insists he would not lash out at me, who could say for certain?

There was an original Loki in my world. He knew he would meet his end one day, and so he tricked Hela into removing his name from the Book of Hel. The how and the why is hardly important, but that Loki met his end, and without Hela having any claim to him in the afterlife, he was free to be reborn. And so he was. Free of Asgard's pull, this new Loki roamed Midgard without ever thinking he was anything more than one than an orphan who needed to provide for himself.

Thor refused to give up the search for his brother, however. He found this new Loki and made him recall his true identity. [...] That Loki proved himself beloved by Asgard. Even those who doubted such a thing found in him a benevolent trickster.

This is his body. Technically. The original Loki knew he would not be reborn along with a new body. A copy was made. If the innocent Loki did not forfeit his life to that copy, then others would have suffered dearly.

You want to know how old I am? Maybe I'm as old as the moment the innocent Loki gave his life to save his brother. Maybe I'm as old as the copy who took his body over. Maybe I'm as old as the moment I was forced to pick which I wanted to be and decided that I was neither.

Still with me?

If Thor desired the company of his brother so greatly, what changed his mind?

He considered the death of his reborn brother to be murder. [...] I suppose it was.

And the consequences had this reborn brother had lived?

Thor would have been killed. And a good many others.

It was a cycle. You never really win unless you break the whole damn thing beyond repair. The price paid was beyond Thor's ability to forgive, unfortunately.

Blah, blah, blah. I am certain you can Google the gory details if you care to know them. I made my peace with what happened.

Thor has difficulty finding gratitude for a happy ending when that ending is not achieved to his standards.

Ours is a family often short on gratitude in general. I would love a chance to speak with my Thor again. Instead, I receive yours. He insists it matters none to him where I come from.

But does it matter to you? Historically, other Lokis and I do not play nice together.

Why should I care? There is nothing here worth fighting over, certainly.

Mmmhmm, of course not.
