Tumbleweed Community Theater Proudly Presents

Directed by Kurt Wagner * Produced by Kitty Pryde

OPEN AUDITIONS

Saturday, November 11th - 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
at the Tumbleweed Commity Theater.
Come prepared with a short monologue of your choosing. You will be asked to read scenes from the script of the character(s) you're auditioning for.

The PDF version of the script may be found here
Characters Needed
The script has initially doubled and tripled roles. Depending on the turnout, some of these roles may be split to accommodate more actors. Smaller, non speaking ensemble roles may also be filled for crowd scenes, also depending on interest.

Actor 1 .......... Scrooge

Actor 2 .......... Bob Cratchit, Marley

Actor 3 .......... Nephew [Fred], Christmas yet to come

Actor 4 .......... Gentleman 1, Christmas Present

Actor 5 .......... Gentleman 2, Fezziwig, Mr. Haversham

Actor 6 .......... Mrs. Cratchit

Actor 7 .......... Niece, Christmas Past

Actor 8 .......... Young Scrooge, Joe (20-25 years), Thomas

Actor 9 .......... Peter Cratchit, Boy-in-the-street (15-18 years)

Actor 10 .......... Fan, Martha Cratchit (18-22 years)

Actor 11 .......... Tiny Tim, Boy Scrooge

Actor 12 .......... Belinda, Belle’s Daughter

Actor 13 .......... Dick Wilkins, Belle’s Husband, Balladeer

Actor 14 .......... Woman 1, Fiancee (Belle), Polly

Actor 15 .......... Woman 2, Mrs. Fezziwig, Mrs. Haversham

Also needed: backstage crew, sound crew, lighting crew, props, costumes.

ETA: Seeking musicians to play live music during the performance - a fiddler is ideal, but if more step forward with different instruments, then there can be an ensemble. May be asked to dress in costume and perform their music on stage, in-character.

Performance dates of the show are the 15th, 16th of December.

Cast will be announced within 48 hours of auditions. A rehursal schedule will be provided soon, thereafter. Performers will be given November 22 - 26 off for Thanksgiving, but will be asked to continue to review their lines.

Actors will taught to dance for the Fezziwig Christmas Party scene. An example of the type of dancing that will be done may be seen here.

Students taking Kurt Wagner's drama class are required to participate in some capacity.

Inquires and questions may be made to this post, or to Kurt Wagner, privately. Thank you, and break a leg!

Obviously.

Fiddling refers to the genre of music being played, while a violin is the instrument itself. The challenge is in the performance — too rigid, and the effect suffers; too loose, and the structure falls apart. It's a delicate balance.

Super! I don't have any sheet music to go by, but I have a recording of what I was going to use for the Fezziwick party scene. If you listened to it, might you be able to copy it? Would you also like to play music throughout? The beginning and end, and through scene changes?

I don't copy. Send the digital recording to my email at [address]. I'll write new arrangements to suit your production and the musicians who volunteer, including the scene changes.

Even better!

There, the music has been sent. You can come to the auditions with your instrument, and we can meet with Wanda (the folk guitarist) and others who are interested in playing music for the show.

I play guitar. Would that be needed?

A bit unorthodox, but easily added to the arrangement. Have you played folk music before?

Many times growing up, yes.

Good. You won't need to be taught. Those who grow up immersed in the genre will always perform it far better than those who don't. It's largely inherited.

Da, my father taught me when I was a young girl, and I continued to play since, when I had access to an instrument.

Wunderbar! Come to the auditions with your instrument, please, and we can meet with Sherlock about what music may be played.

I will be there. Do you have sheet music available ahead of time?

I will refer you to our fearless musical director, Sherlock. He will be writing music specifically for our performance. I sadly don't have any sheet music, but I can send you a recording of the music I was going to use, so you can get an idea?
