Thread: Fancy the Ferelden Countryside?
Who: Declan Gallagher, Ariadne Notaras
When: 9 Solis, Last Afternoon
Where: On the Road in the Bannorn
Rating: PG
Summary: A Warden and a Magister strike up a conversation. But what could they possibly have to talk about?
Declan walked alongside members of his group. He was ahead of many of them, those not used to being on the road. While Declan couldn't really say that he was familiar with traveling a great deal, he was accustomed to being on his feet all day for patrols. He figured the one least used to walking around everywhere was Ariadne, the Magister from Tevinter. The whole situation of her presence rather unsettled him. As many Fereldan's he'd heard stories of the Tevinter Imperium, and none of them good. And the fact that Ariadne had brought a slave along with her was even more troubling. She practiced keeping slaves, or her family does. By the way she dressed, and acted, she was likely from a wealthy family of some standing. Which meant that he would have to look after her. If something happened to their noble guest, he could imagine her family would come screaming after who was responsible and causing all sorts of political problems.
He could hear the sounds of Jill and her horse up ahead, the other boots tracking through the dirt road. Declan scanned ahead and along the sides of the roads, searching the growing shadows occasionally. It would be time to make camp soon enough, and he was growing a bit hungry. It would be nice to bunk down for the evening, even though a bedroll on the damp ground was a far cry from his old bed in the barracks at Vigil's Keep.
He listened to the voices around him when his companions chose to talk to one another, which was rare, and let his thoughts wander. He wasn't one to randomly strike up conversation, though he'd talk to the others when they did. Some of them found him intimidating perhaps, being as he was a Warden, but he didn't see any cause for that. Merely two weeks ago he'd been a common guard, someone they might have passed by unknowingly in the Keep's Halls or on the grounds enjoying the tournament. He almost missed those days, that invisibility. But being a Warden was an honor that he would not have turned down.
