Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Character(s): Lexi, Stefan.
Rating: TBD
Cautions/Warnings: Language and broodiness.
Location: The woods surrounding the Arrival Huts.
Approximate Date: Shortly after Lexi's arrival to the island.
Status: Closed (for now).

Lexi continued walking around the island, staying between the woods and the beach. After walking up and down the area for what seemed like an hour without running into a single person, she stopped walking and placed her hands on her hips. Turning, she peered into the woods and listened closely, trying her best to tell if someone was there. After a minute or so she frowned, There's something off about this place, she thought. While her sight and hearing were still better than when she was human, somehow they weren't as strong as they usually were; like here they were diminished. Deciding it was time to give up in the beach, she made her way into the woods.

She soon realized that the woods were similar to the beach in the event that no one appeared to be in them either. "Okay, I cannot be the only person on this godforsaken island or wherever I am," she muttered as she pressed on. Just when she was about to call it quits and try to hunt for some food instead, she caught sight of something not to far ahead from where she was. She couldn't be entirely sure what or who it was because of the distance, but she was certain that it was human or at least human-like. Walking a little faster, she managed to close the gap between them quickly.

When she was finally close enough to get a look at the person, she couldn't believe her eyes. "Stefan?" she called out as she all but ran to him. "Stefan, oh my God, I can't believe it's you!" she laughed as she threw her arms around him.

Stefan knew that Lexi was the type of person who couldn't stay tied to one place for long, and honestly he admired her ability to hop from town to town without getting too attached to its residents. Personally Stefan didn't have the same resolve; he got wrapped up in every location he went to, growing close to people that withered away right in front of him every time. No matter how many times he lost friends and family, though, he kept opening his heart to more people and more grief. It was a tough life, but he didn't want to change; he'd already lost his humanity once in the past few months and he most definitely did not want to go back there.

Stefan took a lot of the blame for why Damon was the way he was. After all, he'd been the evil brother once upon a time, the one killing for pleasure and leaving entire cities devastated in his wake. He'd been with Damon's girl, and had eventually been chosen by her as the one she truly loved. He'd gotten them turned into vampires to begin with, a fate that Damon had never wanted. Both of them had made a lot of mistakes over the centuries, but Stefan knew that none of this would have happened if it hadn't been for him. That was a huge part of why he was so forgiving with Damon now, because he knew what he'd been like before Katherine Pierce had come into their lives and he still believed that man was in there somewhere.

Stefan turned to Lexi when she grasped his hand but kept his head hanging low, shame clear in his entire demeanor. He couldn't deny that his throat got tight and his eyes felt wet as she told him she wasn't disappointed in him; he'd been waiting to hear that and he honestly hadn't thought he would. "I did. I did want to save his life," he confirmed, swallowing thickly and clearing his throat. Once he had more composure, he continued, "But I don't think he wanted to live, Lexi. I think he wanted me to let him die. And he's mad that I didn't, that I hurt Elena instead of allowing that bite to kill him."

He finally looked Lexi in the eyes when she turned his face towards hers, and at once he was struck with just how much he'd missed his friend. She was so compassionate, and so forgiving. He could only wish that he'd redeem himself to her and to Elena so that he would actually deserve such kind treatment. "I hope so. I love her, and I just want her to be happy. If I can be the one to make her that way, I'd be ecstatic." He licked over his lips and sighed deeply. "That being said, I don't know how I'm going to get past the knowledge of her feelings for Damon. I don't know how to rebuild what we had when our foundation is now tainted with something that can't just fade overnight. What do you think I should do?"

Lexi knew Stefan still held on to the guilt and the blame over what had happened back in 1864 between him, Damon, and Katherine. There were times when she honestly wondered if he would let it go and fully move on from that dark period in his life. Surely that one selfish act didn't warrant her best friend the kind of self loathing he felt at times. But then again, she knew if the shoe was on the other foot and she was in Stefan's place, she might be acting the very same way.

Lexi hated seeing the tears in Stefan's eyes and they damn near broke her heart. "Stefan, you don't have it in you to sit idly by while someone you love is in pain let alone dying. How could Damon honestly have expected you to just let him die? Things might not have turned out the way you expected, but you did have the best of intentions and that counts for something, Stefan."

Aside from the man she considered the love of her life, she loved Stefan the most out of everyone she knew. She just wanted to see him happy again with light in his eyes instead of the darkness that was in them now. This love triangle with Elena and the Salvatore brothers was a recipe for disaster if she ever saw one; no matter which one she chose, someone was going to get hurt an badly. Giving Stefan a small smile, she took a deep breath before answering him. "I know how cliche this might sound, but maybe you both should give Elena a little time to herself. Something tells she she doesn't even know what she wants right now, not really anyway. She needs to deal with these feelings she has for Damon before she should be doing anything with you. I know that's probably the last thing you want, but I think it might be the best thing for your relationship. And I'm not saying you should leave her alone for years or anything, but maybe give her a couple of days to adjust to you being here and being confronted with two men who are so in love with her."
