Gone were the days that Elena thought she could cope with everything on her own. Doubtless, it wouldn't stop her perpetually stubborn self from trying it all over again sooner rather than later, but on that day in particular, things had reached breaking point. She couldn't go to Damon, nor Stefan. Being part of the problem meant that they couldn't be part of the solution, and with the massive sledgehammer to the chest that was the appearance of Jenna, Elena needed her best friend then more than she ever possibly had before. It was with this thought in mind that Elena went hunting through the makeshift homes in search of Caroline.
She pushed her head into several of the huts and made a lot of half-hearted apologies as she searched for the blonde girl, growing more frustrated, more impatient and, most importantly, coming closer to the verge of tears with every failure to find her friend. It wasn't often that Elena actively went out to seek help, and she could almost feel the time before her headstrong, overly pride side came out in full force and ruined any progress that she was trying to make in the mess of problems that their lives had become. Letting out a small noise of pent up frustration, Elena scraped her fingers through her hair and looked around as she moved in a slow circle. All she wanted in that moment was a stupid cell phone, and some damn signal. She hadn't realised how much she took for granted until she had arrived on this island, but now wasn't the time for existential awareness of her privileged life. Now, all she wanted was to pour her heart out to her friend, maybe cry a bit and, hopefully, figure out how to fix the mess that she had made.
Finally Elena tried another hut, looked around to find it empty and that was it, she snapped at last. Everything that had been building up since she had first arrived on the island suddenly unleashed itself, unable to be contained and quashed any longer. She hit the outside wall hard, a loud sob escaping that she didn't care about enough to try and keep quiet as she rest her head against the wall. Everything was happening so soon, so fast, and she honestly didn't know how to cope with it all. She turned so her back was against the wall, and slid down slowly until she was sitting on the ground with her knees against her chest. Elena looked a complete state, with tear stains all over her face, blood stains still on her shirt and her hair a mess from all the time she had been spending with her hands in it - twisting, pushing, pulling and tugging constantly through the day as she had tried to process the events of the last few weeks. Elena's head dropped to her knees and she gasped softly before mumbling, "Caroline, where the hell are you?"
