Who: Dominic & Adelaide
What: Some happiness before the downfall
When: Monday afternoon
Where: Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, then back home
Rating: PG
Status: Complete

The Malfoy Ball had turned out to be an interesting turn of events. It was the first time Adelaide had laid eyes on Lord Voldemort and it was enough to actually strike fear into her heart. He was completely different from what she had expected and just by his presence, she could feel his strength and power. It made her question, only for a fraction of a minute, if she was entirely sure she knew what she was getting into.

And then she got greedy.

If this man was so powerful, was able to command such loyalty, think of the power she could obtain with it. It made her more determined to find a way to complete the spell and prove to Lucius she could be apart of the Death Eaters.

She was practicing that spell when an owl flew through her window, depositing a small poinsettia and a message.

She could only smile and fold up the parchment with the spell on it, quickly forgotten. She had been nervous and surprised at the ball, to find that her relationship with Dominic had turned a complete 180. It was certainly different, but she liked it. She was worried that perhaps it was just the alcohol talking that night, but with the note and the flower, she began thinking that maybe he had actually meant it.

She flew down the stairs from the Ravenclaw Tower, eager to see him again. Excursion? It certainly sounded interesting enough and she quickened her step to meet him.

She found him right where he said he would be and a smile played across her lips. Ever since the ball, she had found herself smiling more and more. It was hard to become accustomed to.

"Hey," she said, stepping up beside him, her arms crossed. "Thanks for the flower. It's...pretty." She had never received flowers before, save from her father. She had never expressed an interest in them as other girls had, but she sentiment was still appreciated.

"So what grand adventure do you have planned for us?"

He had drank from his cup, barely noticing the burn of the tea as it slipped down his throat, and come to settle somewhere in his stomach, and near the balloon of happiness and excitement.

"Isn't it? It's nice to have a fantastic little route that leads here." He said, lowering his cup onto the pink doily that was on the tabletop.

Dominic had opened his mouth to answer, meaning to give some joking quip, however his words died before they even reached his tongue, and he was left with an almost humorous expression of surprise.

Gradually, his smile widened, brilliant and filled with that excitement he had not been able to push down since their meeting on the Fourth Floor.

"If I can call you my girlfriend," He was surprised, just how smoothly the words came, "Then certainly."

"Yes, I was curious to know how we actually got here. A secret passage? How did you find it? And more importantly, will I be blind folded when we go back?" She was curious to know of Dominic's way here, thinking it would be a great asset for the future. If it was so easy to sneak in and out of Hogwarts undetected, it could be a valuable benefit.

Her smile was completely genuine, abandoning any notion that Dominic might be tricking her. For now, she wanted to believe it. "Well, I guess that's that," she said, sitting back in her chair, satisfied. She had never had a boyfriend before. Her parents would be happy.

"I might actually miss our little quips," she said, drinking the rest of her tea. "Although I'm sure that won't really change either."

"Right you are," He answered with ease. "I can leave you with your vision this time, since the secret is now out of the bag. Besides, it might do you some good to know how to leave whenever you please."

How could she do it so easily? Dominic had expected the affair to be much similar to pulling teeth! And yet...they had arrived at a mutual agreement without fretting, without making grand gestures or offers as was common with Purebloods.

They had just agreed.

"I suppose," He answered, somewhat lamely for Dominic Avery.

After a brief pause, he drained his own cup and flashed her his smile from before, just as he leaned in closer, voice lowering to something close to a whisper. "I doubt it. Why would it though? It isn't as if being together will make us different people!"

She moved forward with him, as if listening in to a great secret. She smiled, shaking her head. "I suppose you're right," she said. "Although I've certainly changed my feelings towards you. It almost feels like a different person. You know, in a way." She grinned all the same however. It was strange to think how Dominic had once annoyed her to no end. She had always known him and his family growing up and their playful banter had turned into something more serious with the years. She had always assumed he was one of the Slytherin's that resented her for not being in the house, unworthy and beneath him. She was now beginning to realize that she had taken his playful nature for something it wasn't.

The rest of their day was nice, filled with pleasant conversation with small jabs here and there. At some point they had reached across the table to hold hands, a gesture that was strange but comforting. She was beginning to like this idea of having a boyfriend.

When they stood to leave, Adelaide found herself dreading going back to school. Not being in the same house as Dominic meant they would need to part ways. "I had a great time," she said, smiling at him and taking his hand once more. "It was a brilliant idea. Strange that you would have come up with it." She leaned over and gave him a small kiss on the cheek to make up for the sting in her words.

"Hopefully one that will suit you?" It sounded almost like a joke at the time; however as the time they spent together went on, Dominic realized he had been a touch serious, without noticing.

He liked the idea of being with Adelaide, of being boyfriend and girlfriend. It was something he had never expected, however that did not mean it was any less appreciated.

Becoming someone she despised...Dominic cared a bit too much, perhaps.

That worry lessened, drew back to be a dull ebb in the back of his mind as the time passed by then, at nearly shocking speed.

He assumed it was because they were enjoying themselves, willing to touch, not nearly as tentative as before...

At the kiss, Dominic gave her a slight, and genuine, smile, reaching down to take hold of her hand, giving it a slight squeeze. "I can be romantic when I put my mind to it."

Dominic tilted his head slightly, keeping his dark eyed gaze pinned to her.

"I'm glad to hear you enjoyed yourself though. I thought perhaps--" He stopped, and just shrugged.

What Dominic had thought was that she would not like it. That it was too girly, too sappy. However, he kept that to himself. There was no need to spoil it all now.

The tab had been paid already, and he chose to look towards the wide window, that showed the streets of Hogsmeade clearly.

"Ready to go, m'dear?"

She smiled as he took her hand, a feeling of giddiness coming over her. It was strange to feel this way, to suddenly want to do everything right in Dominic's eyes. When had it changed from a curious fancy to something more? She didn't want to think how hard she had fallen for Dominic or admit it to herself.

"I suppose I am," she said a little sadly. "It was nice to get out of the castle though. I don't want to go back to those crowded corridors." She glanced out the window with him before turning her attention back to her date. "At least I know a way to leave there when it gets too much." She stood from the table wondering if Dominic might stay a bit longer with her once they came back to Hogwarts. Just another reason why she hated being in Ravenclaw.

He grinned down at her, giving her hand a tight squeeze, almost as if he were trying to shake her from the brief somber mood that had fallen over her. "Whenever you need to get away, why don't you Owl me? We could sneak out together and make a good time of it."

He released her hand, and instead wrapped it around her, hand resting against her shoulder as he steered her from the shop and out into Hogsmeade's streets, waving carelessly to Madam Puddifoot as they exited.

The streets were warm, the sun beating down steadily on the cobble, as the few shoppers that were out made there way up and down the streets.

Instead of ducking into the alleyway from where they had come, Dominic seemed intent on strolling along with her. He did not say it, however he wished to draw this out a little longer.

"Same goes for any other reason too," He said abruptly. "If you just want to talk, study. Practice curses..."

He tilted his head so that he could see her better, and flashed her a brighter smile then before.

"Course, we could always sneak into each others Dorms."

Since Adelaide had been blind folded on the way there, she did not know if Dominic was taking them straight back to the castle or taking a lounging walk around the town. His pace seemed to suggest the later and Adel could only smile, leaning into him slightly. It was a beautiful day out, perfect for their small escapade. She people watched for awhile, looking through the windows of the small shoppes. She had never been a fan of the Hogsmeade weekends, usually staying back at the castle. With Dominic, it was a completely different experience.

"I will certainly keep that in mind," she said, her eyes lingering at the stones in front of them. She still needed to perfect that spell Lucius had given to her. She wanted to tell Dominic about it so badly but didn't want to ruin her chances of getting into the Death Eaters. Perhaps after she was in she could speak to Lucius about getting Dominic in.

"Although I don't think you would be able to get into my dorm," she said, glancing up at him with a smirk. "It's a nice thought though. And wouldn't our roommates be upset to have a girl in there? You room with Severus Snape, do you not?" She had never really spoken to the brooding young man before, although his potion and spell skills were known throughout the school. Still, he did not seem the type to allow for such things in his presence. And she was sure Dominic was not thinking about studying or talking in the dorm room.

"Please do, m'dear."

Time with Adelaide was interesting. Dominic had been with other Witches before, dated a number, kissed more then a few... It was certainly not a new experience for him, and yet it felt like just that.

Adelaide was different from the others; there was a sort of raw quality about her. Oftentimes, he glimpsed a spark of excitement in her eyes, hunger for more.

Something that anyone else might have found frightening, and which Dominic took as interesting, captivating.

Absently, his hand patted lightly against her shoulder, light laughter bubble up to the surface.

"Indeed I do, however a number of them have had girl's in more then once. It certainly wouldn't--" He paused, and gave her another quick smile.

Dominic had almost gone on about the many other times he had Witches around, and experience told him he should not boast about such conquests to his girlfriend.

"Be their place to say anything." Dominic finished with a slight shrug. Almost as an after thought, he spoke again, brows raising up, expression questioning.

"And why wouldn't I be able to get in? My dear Adelaide, are you calling me a fool?" Abruptly he let go, hand rising to his breast as he let out an over dramatic sigh.

"I'm hurt."

Adelaide was almost disturbed how easily it was that she fell into a comfortable routine with Dominic. It was like their years of teasing and playful banter were turning into fond memories and they had moved on to a new step in their relationship. Perhaps there had always been some kind of attraction between themselves at the time, the teasing hiding something all together.

Dominic was her first real boyfriend. She had never taken to any other member of the opposite sex before, thinking it a waste of her time. Those that she might have been interested in didn't look at her in the same way and she just convinced herself that it was better that way. Less distractions. But with Dominic's arm around her shoulders, she was beginning to wonder why she had not wanted this sooner.

She raised an eyebrow at what he said, shaking her head. She wasn't sure if she really wanted to know what he was going to say, so it was better left unanswered. "Well, I suppose if you're sure it would be alright with your roommates..." The thought brought a strange twist in her stomach. Since she had never been with another boy before she had never done anything of the intimate nature. She knew (or more heard) that boys only had one thing on their mind...could that be true for Dominic as well?

Now wasn't the time to think of such things. She rolled her eyes but laughed. "Oh, certainly not my dear! You are far from being a fool." She grinned up at him before staring back out at the path in front of them, leaning into his arm a little. "But there is the matter of the stairs to think about you know. Unless you know the spell to make them not turn into a slide?"

"Should be," He had answered with ease. Dominic was smart, quick thinker and adapt at reading others, when he wanted to be that was.

Currently though, he was simply lulling in the warm, gentle breeze that ruffled his hair, the companionship of the small Witch beside him.

Just being happy. There was no need for critical thinking, manipulation right now.

Dominic did not want their relationship to be like that.

Instead, he chose to continue joking, as he let out a chuckle, stride slow, unhindered with worries or concerns.

"Well, that lifts great sadness from my heart!"

He paused, and then gave a sharp shake of his head, voice falsely grave.

"Alas, I have yet to discover such a magical spell. " He said this with flare, and quickly tacked on further words, his voice slipping back into its normal tone.

"To be honest, I forgot about the slide."
