The Kite - From 'Finding Neverland' Soundtrack - Composed by Jan A. P. Kaczmarek
Kiss the Rain - Composed by Yiruma

The week had certainly been interesting and it took everything Riona was to keep her head above water. It was a delicate situation to make sure she stayed in good face to her friends, both in Slytherin and out. While she truly did wish the Evans girl a swift recovery, she couldn't quite bring herself to admit it to her housemates. It seemed all of them, save for Rabastan, wanted to see that poor girl strung up and silenced permanently. Since when was it a crime to voice one's beliefs? She didn't like the sound of that and before, she had tried to stay away from politics as much as possible. With recent events, that seemed to be a rather tall order. It was a delicate game that needed to played just right. One step out of place and she might find herself in the same situation as Miss Evans.

But today was going to be much better. She was going to meet up with Amycus and just relax, have a good time. He wanted to hear her play and she was more than happy to oblige. There was nothing in the world that made her feel as good as when she was sitting in front of a piano. She had come up with a couple bits of different songs she was working on and wanted to get someone's opinion of them.

She had skipped out on dinner that night, wanting to finish up her homework so she would be free the rest of the evening. But she waited outside the Great Hall, waiting for Amycus to come out. When she saw him, she made her way towards him, a smile on her face.

"Hey," she said. "Still on for tonight?"

Amycus was glad that Riona hadn't continued on with the discussion of the attack and the rumors circulating around it. It was hard enough for him to hide his true feelings about what had occurred over the journals. He wasn't sure he was up to the task of concealing them in a face-to-face conversation. Riona had told him that she'd been trying to save face in her comments about the mudblood on her journal but he wasn't quite convinced of that. She was still close with that blood traitor Sirius.

He smiled back at her as they walked into the room, laughing softly as she beat him to conjuring a chair. He'd come to know the layout of this room fairly well since he'd started coming to listen to her play, an honor that he didn't think she'd extended to anybody else in their house. "I'm not keeping you from someone you'd rather spend your free time with am I?" he asked, settling himself down comfortably in the chair. "I doubt I'd notice if you did. I like hearing you play," he told her, relaxing a bit more now that they were in the room and he wasn't having to deal with anyone else.

"Something to help me finish relaxing?" he asked after a moment's thought. "And then I want to hear the new song you've been practicing. And after thought whatever you like," he told her giving her another of his rare, real smiles.

It always made Riona happy when she was able to pull a genuine smile from Amycus. He always seemed so broody and upset that she hoped he could relax when they were hanging out. "Something relaxing," she mused, thinking as she set her fingers on the keys. A natural melody came flowing through her fingertips as she played the melody, closing her eyes as she played it. It was simple enough, but she felt herself loosen as well. It was easy to get caught up in the music and she let the last note drift off.

"How do you feel now?" she asked, grinning. She knew she felt rather relaxed now, kind of loose and limber.

Amycus felt the smile lingering on his face as he listened to Riona playing, softening somehow as he relaxed and was able to forget about everything that had happened for just a few minutes. He didn't forget his concern about what Rabastan wanted to talk to him about exactly but it did stop being at the front of his mind.

He watched her while she played, loving the dreamy look that seemed to cross her face as she lost herself in the music. "Relaxed," he told her returning her grin for an instant. "That was beautiful, Ri," he said. He didn't pay compliments lightly, or at least not to her.

"I'm glad you like it," she said, the smile still on her face. "It's one of my favorites. Very simple, but there's just something there that gives a sense of purity and innocence." It was strange for her to play that now, because they were certainly in an age where that seemed to be faded.

"Would you care to hear my new piece?" she asked, her fingers almost itching to play it for him. "I still haven't finished it, but you can hear what I have so far. Perhaps you could give me some advice on where you think it should go from there." She knew Amycus didn't have any professional teachings in music, but she would welcome anyone's criticism of her work. She believed anyone could create music and had an ear for it.

"I can see why you'd like it. I think it might actually be my favorite. Out of everything I've heard you play," he said softly.

He smiled at her question, hoping he wasn't imagining the eagerness he thought he heard in her voice. "I told you I wanted to hear it," he said teasing her gently. His teasing of Riona was radically different than the way he teased Cissy, which made sense because his friendships with the two girls were different. "I don't know how much I'd be but I can try."

She smiled back, taking that as a compliment. She had played quite a few songs for him these past few months, so he had many songs to choose a favorite from.

She shot him a teasing glance, setting herself up for the song she was about to play. She had been working on it since her brother's death, a kind of memorial in his honor.

She took a moment before she began to play. The melody was slow and melodic, but she put everything she had into it.

Amycus found himself leaning forward as Riona played the song she'd been working on, caught up in the beauty of the melody. It wasn't as lighthearted as some of the songs she'd played for him or relaxing like what she'd played for him earlier that night but it still touched something in him.

He didn't say anything for a few minutes after she finished playing, just sitting there quietly looking down at the floor. He looked up at her finally, "That was beautiful Ri. I don't think I could suggest anything. Even if I did know anything about music."

When she was done, she let the last note linger before dropping her hands from the keys and tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. Perhaps she should even stop it there? Did it really need to go on?

She got up from the bench and conjured another chair, setting it close to Amycus'. It wasn't very lady like, but she flopped down in it, her legs going over the arm rest. "I'm glad you liked it," she said, grinning. She pulled a strand of hair and twisted it, before placing it under her nose and grinning.

"I've been working on it for awhile. Do you think Michael would have liked it?"

Amycus turned in his chair so that he was facing Riona, grinning back at her and laughing as she gave herself a mustache with a strand of her hair. "Not a good look for you," he told her honestly. He was comfortable being with Riona and he couldn't help but feel a little guilty that her brother's death was what made him realize it.

"Michael would have loved it," he told her, fairly confident that he was right in saying so. He'd had a passing friendship with her brother and had heard the affection and pride in his voice whenever the topic of his younger sister came up.

"You don't think so?" she asked, giving him a little pout. "I always thought I could pull off any look. I suppose I should just keep shaving my upper lip then. I guess pureblooded men like their women smooth." She giggled, leaning her head against the back of the chair. She couldn't really say when she started to grow more and more comfortable with Amycus. He certainly wasn't the most easy person to get to know, but there was something about him that still put her at ease. Perhaps it was his ability to keep things to himself and only allow himself to be polite or joking when he was with her. Whatever the reason was, she appreciated it.

"I'm glad," she said, turning her head to look at the piano. "I wish I could just serve his memory a little better." Well, hopefully that would be soon enough. If she could only get more information on the Death Eaters and find out how to be apart of this elusive group. That would truly live a life in memory of him.

Amycus smiled and shook his head at Riona's pout. "Almost any. But then I've never cared for mustaches on anyone so I might be the wrong person to ask," he told her with a wink. "I've always thought they must tickle horribly when you're eating. Or kissing someone," he said, looking over at the piano. "I think for the most part we just like our women. Speaking as a pureblooded man of course" he told her with a grin. He was much more comfortable talking with her about things like this then the growing unrest in the school. It was easier for him to keep his opinions to himself that way and avoid quarreling with her.

"What do you mean?" he asked, looking at her curiously.

She laughed, but nodded her head. "I will have to agree with that," she said. "I don't really care for beards or mustaches. They don't really tickle, they're scratchy. And that isn't romantic as you're trying to snog someone." She made a face. "No, I like smooth too. A very good call Amycus, as a pureblooded girl to a pureblooded man." She grinned, tilting her head back to look at the ceiling.

She didn't say anything at first, wondering if she should confide in Amycus. Rabastan was going to speak to him about the Death Eaters and even on the off chance that Amycus knew nothing, she didn't want many people knowing.

"I'd like to do something more active," she said, looking over at him. "Not just sit in this music room and write songs for him. I want to do something with my life that he would be proud of."

"I'll take your word on them being scratchy," Amycus told her, laughing along with her. "I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever start thinking about growing a beard," he added, shifting in his chair so that his back was resting against the arm and he could watch her more comfortably.

"Michael would be proud of you. No matter what you do," he told her, returning her gaze steadily.

"Some girls might like it," she said, giving a small shrug. "It really depends. Just make sure to ask whenever you get a nice girlfriend. Anyone on your radar?" She wiggled her eyebrows at him, grinning. It seemed like everyone was a couple nowadays, as was appropriate for pureblood teenagers. She either found they would find a good match here at school or have their fun before their parents arranged a marriage for them. She could only hope her parents would find her a suitable match. Still, knowing them, they would choose someone with a high blood purity and it would be someone who was twice her age. She shuddered to think of marrying someone like that.

She smiled, appreciative of Amycus' words. "I hope so," she said, catching his eye for a moment before looking away. "Ever since his death I want to make sure I live a life he would be happy of. Unfortunately I believe my parents have a different idea of that."

Amycus shrugged in response to Riona's question. "No one special," he told her, not feeling the need to tell her that he wasn't really looking. "What about you? What lucky young pureblood has caught your eye?" he asked with an arched eyebrow. His parents had been going on about finding a wife for the past two years before they found him one. So far he'd been able to avoid his parents matchmaking but he knew it was only a matter of time until he'd have to marry some pureblood witch who'd provide him with an heir.

"Does it help any that I'm proud of you?" he asked, knowing that it wouldn't mean the same thing to her. "I think Michael would be happy if you were. What do your parents want for you?" he added curiously. They'd never talked about her parents before tonight.

"I'm not really looking at the moment," she said, saying what he had left unsaid. "I mean, it would be nice to have someone in my life like that, but what if I don't end up with them? I mean, truly it's my parents who will have a say in the matter of who I will marry. What if I fall for someone here at school, only to be denied their love later? It seems a waste of emotions and time." It was a wall she had begun to build against any kind of relationship. While she was as much a girl as the female population at the school, she kept trying to convince herself that being in a relationship wasn't really that important. Plus, it would save on heartache later.

She smiled at his compliment and nodded her head. "Of course it does," she said, giving the arm of his chair a little kick. "You've always been there for me and helped me through a lot after Michael's death. It means a lot to still have you by my side." She smiled before losing herself in thought about her parents.

"I suppose they want what any pureblooded family does. A good marriage of strong blood purity. I..." She hesitated, glancing at Amycus, but decided to go on. "I suppose I'm just afraid they'll marry me to someone who's twice my age and doesn't really care. I know it's my duty to my family to oblige, but I wouldn't want to live that kind of life."

"That's always a concern," Amycus said, understanding her concern about falling for someone here at school. "So you're willing to deny yourself happiness now, because it might not work out the way you want it too later?" he asked, mildly amused by it. "Not to mention all the men you're disappointing," he added, putting his hand over his heart with an exaggerated sigh before continuing, "And I'm including myself in that." Riona would meet his parents requirements for a prospective bride for him and unlike most of the women they introduced him too he could actually talk with her and enjoyed her company.

Her kick brought his attention back to their conversation and he smiled back at her. "You needed me after his death. I'm just glad I was able to be there for you. I'm always going to be there for you Ri. No matter what," he told her, seriously.

"That's what my parents want. I'm expected to find a young pureblood witch, from a good family, who'll give birth to the next generation of Carrow's. And direct quote from Grandfather 'If you can bring yourself to feel at least a little fond of her things will be much easier'" he said, his voice growing sarcastic as he told her what his grandfather had told him.

His attention turned back to her when she started telling him what she was afraid of and he nodded his head. "Or perhaps worse that you can't bring yourself to care for or even respect?" he asked. "Have you tried talking to your parents?"
