Who: Amycus and Cissy
What: He needs someone to talk too
When: Wednesday night
Where: School grounds
Rating: PG
Status: Incomplete

Amycus stepped into the common room, looking around it for any sign Narcissa. It had been a few days since his conversation with Cissy over the journals and even though he and Alecto had made up that same night, he still felt the need to talk with someone. He finally found Cissy laying on the couch with a dreamy sort of look on her face and he smiled a little coldly as he crossed the room and leaned over the back of the couch.

"Steal the couch from your cousin?" he asked softly, reaching out to pull a lock of her hair gently. He waited for her response before continuing, deliberately pitching his voice so that it carried through the common room, "Do you want to go for a walk with me?" He wanted somebody to tell Lucius that he'd taken Cissy out for a moonlit walk. They could talk here in the common room easy enough, and he could probably even manage to make sure they had some privacy, but it would be easier for them to talk freely outside.

He certainly was being affectionate, but Cissy didn't really mind. She seemed to be that way with all of her friends, male or female, and it was comforting. She didn't suspect anything unusual from it and allowed him to lead her to wherever they would go.

"Very true," she said, rolling her eyes. "Although it seems it has upset Severus a great deal. He won't actually say, but he's been more mopey than usual." It was still an issue that bugged Narcissa, but she didn't really want to get into it with Amycus at the moment. She spent enough time worrying and thinking about Severus that she needed something new to concentrate.

"And how have you been doing? Better than our last journal conversation I hope."

Amycus wasn't normally this affectionate with anyone except his sister. It wasn't that he was never affectionate with Cissy, but this level of contact with someone was far away from his normal behavior. He was leading them over towards the lake, fairly certain that there wouldn't be a lot of people there at this time.

He nodded at Cissy's comment about Severus being upset about what had happened. He didn't know the boy very well himself but even he'd noticed a change in his behavior. And if it had been obvious to him he could only imagine how much more so it must have been to Severus' friends. "I'm sorry that it's bothering him," he said, absently.

"Much better. Alecto and I made up Sunday. And I found a new project to occupy myself with," he said looking at her with a smile. He looked around where they were standing and grimaced. "I should have brought something for us to sit on." He wanted to talk with her about the situation with Lucius but he wasn't sure exactly where her relationship with him stood these days.

"There wouldn't have been a problem between us in the first place if it weren't for Lucius."

She raised an eyebrow, especially when Lucius got brought into the conversation. It seemed almost too coincidental that she had her run in with Lucius the other night and now Amycus so casually brought him up into the conversation. Were other people noticing her recent closeness with him? While she certainly wouldn't mind having their relationship (was it even that?) become public, she had a feeling she would have to be careful with it.

"Oh? What happened with Lucius?" Still, her curiosity got the better of her and she wanted to know more.

Amycus heard Cissy's question and sat down on the ground, the fact that he hadn't brought anything to sit on no longer mattered. He let go of Cissy's hand and stared out at the lake for a minute, trying to think about how much he could tell Cissy about what had happened in Lucius' room.

He hadn't noticed her getting closer with Lucius lately and if he had he would have found someone else to talk to about what had happened.

"He sent his little brat to find us Saturday and have us report to his room," he said, unaware of how bitter he sounded towards Lucius at the moment. "I knew what it was about because he and I had talked about it earlier in the week but I didn't want Alecto to know that I'd been keeping secrets from her. Not secrets as big as this one. Lucius couldn't allow that," he said, the bitterness in his voice replaced by a little bit of sadness.

"He made certain that Alecto find out I'd been keeping things from her. That I knew why he'd asked us to his room."

This was all news to Narcissa, but she was able to keep a calm facade about it as she sat down next to him. She tucked her legs underneath as it was not becoming to sit with her legs crossed, especially in a skirt. She listened to what he had to say, nodding her head to show support. Truthfully it wasn't hard who's side she would take in this matter; it would always be Lucius. Still, Amycus was a good friend of hers and she would hear him out before giving her two cents.

"Why didn't you tell Alecto?" she asked, feeling it was a valid question. She knew (or at least assumed) how close their relationship was and it seemed strange for him to keep anything from him. Secrets always came out, whether in the way the person wanted or not. It seemed like Amycus got the later, something he wasn't happy about. Of course it was Lucius to have done it, but still, could he really not blame himself for not sharing something so important with his sister?

Amycus sat silently, trying to think of a way to answer Cissy's question. He fished the pack of cigarettes Rodolphus had sent him out of his pocket, lighting one as the quiet stretched between them. He turned to look at Cissy. "I didn't think I could," he told her softly.

"Did you know I came back to London early last summer? Alecto stayed with our parents and I was here asking questions. Trying to figure out what was true and what was just rumor," he told her. "She wasn't here for me to tell what I was finding out and then when we were back together - I don't know. I just didn't think I could tell her," he said looking away from her and taking a long pull of his cigarette.

Narcissa frowned at what he said. It had to be fairly big for Amycus to hide something from his sister. Was this what Lucius had told her? Was this new wizard so powerful now that he could command his followers to stay silent and they would? Lucius had seemed very hesitant and insistent of her not becoming one of them...one of these Death Eaters.

"But now she knows everything?" she asked. "Because of Lucius." She shook her head. "Amycus, don't you think you should be thanking him? While things may have been bad, you can at least speak to Alecto and tell her why you kept it from him. Lucius just brought it out in the light so you didn't have to." She placed a hand on his arm, not wanting it to seem like she was automatically siding with Lucius.

"Amycus, I tell you this as a friend. You shouldn't dwell on the wrong that's been done to you. Lucius, I'm sure, was only trying to help you. Really." She squeezed his arm, moving it to rub his back.

"Yeah. It didn't come out the way I wanted it to. I knew I was going to have to tell her. Not telling her was almost killing me," Amycus said. "I just wanted to do it right. In a way where she wouldn't end up hating me," he added a little bitterly. "For what? For making my sister refuse to speak to me for over 24 hours? She wouldn't even look at me Cissy!" he said, anger replacing the bitterness in his voice.

He closed his eyes, forcing himself to calm down. Getting angry at Cissy wouldn't do any good. "He could have cost me my sister. You can't honestly think he did that to help me?" he asked, fighting to keep his voice level. He started to jerk his arm away from Cissy's touch but stopped himself at the last minute.

"I don't think he was Cissy. I think it was about control. Proving that he had it and I didn't," he said, staring down at the cigarette burning in his hand so that she couldn't see the hurt in his eyes.

Narcissa frowned, knowing there was some truth to what Amycus said. If there was anything Lucius liked to show, it was his power over other people. She had experienced on more than one occasion. "You may be right as well," she said with a sigh. "Still, try to look at the bright side. You and Alecto are fine. You should just go forward with that." She smiled, hoping to bring one out in Amycus. She had known him her whole life and she knew that he wouldn't let this die out so easily.

"May I ask what it was you were keeping from your sister?" She had a feeling she knew already, but was curious to see if he would actually share any of the details. While Lucius was still against her becoming a Death Eater, she still wanted to get as much information possible. Besides, she still had to speak with Dominic about it as well.

Amycus looked at Cissy out of the corner of his eye, bringing his cigarette up to his mouth only to find that it had burned out. He turned his head away to relight it, looking that way for a while as he quietly smoked.

"So I should just let go of the fact that he almost destroyed my relationship with my sister?" he said turning back to face her, his voice cold. He was starting to wonder if talking to Cissy about this hadn't been a mistake.

"I found out some things when I was here last summer. Things I didn't tell Alecto. I didn't tell anyone," he said, telling her as much of the truth as he could without revealing that he had become a Death Eater. "And now Lucius is threatening to tell Alecto exactly how long I was keeping it all a secret from her."

"You know, you should really quit." Narcissa eyed him as he re-lit the cigarette. She had never seen the luxury of smoking, but rarely said anything out loud. She smell was really disgusting though and she fanned the smoke away from herself. She didn't want it seeping into her hair or clothes.

"Amycus, do you really think Alecto would have stopped talking to you over this? After everything you've been through?" She nudged him with her shoulder. "After everything you guys feel for each other?" She didn't delve further into that but thought he might understand. She always had a feeling were closer than they seemed, but it only seemed appropriate to keep that to herself.

"I can agree that Lucius does think of ways to raise himself to power, but I cannot think that he would purposefully destroy a relationship like the one you and Alecto have. Chin up. Don't dwell on the past otherwise you can never move forward and get through this." She raised her eyebrow at what he conversed, now knowing when he was initiated.

"You can't tell anyone or you won't?" She may have been pushing the envelope, but she felt like he might give in. "If Lucius is threatening anything, isn't that a cue for you to tell her before he does?"

"Please don't start on that," Amycus said, looking back at her. "I get enough of that from my parents," he added, making certain to keep his cigarette away from her. That was the only concession he was willing to make on the matter.

"She did. And now that she is talking to me again, I know that I don't ever want to go through that again. That was the hardest 24 hours of my life Cissy," he told her his voice trailing off quietly at the end. He didn't think he'd survive it if Alecto ever got that angry with him again. He looked Cissy in the eye before saying seriously, "I can't live without her Cissy. I don't know how and I don't think I want to learn." He wasn't sure how else to explain the way he felt about Alecto. She was one of the few people that he cared about and no one else came anywhere close to being as important to him as she was.

"I don't think you know him as well as you think," he told her a little bitterly. "I don't think he cares who he hurts to get what he wants," he added. He and Lucius rarely got along these days. They might put on a good front when their housemates were around but it was mostly an act. Or at least it was on Amycus' side. He gave a soft sarcastic laugh at her telling him to chin up and not dwell on the past but didn't react to it beyond that.

He noticed her raised eyebrow and looked away, suddenly concerned that he might have said too much. "I'm not sure," he said softly. "I don't want him controlling my life through threats, Cissy. And what if she decides she can't forgive me after she finds out?" he asked her, feeling a little better for voicing his worst fear.

She held her hands up, not saying more on the subject. Still, she wanted to tell him that perhaps his parents were right in their scolding. It was a filthy habit.

Narcissa was only mildly surprised by the passion Amycus used to talk about his sister. Naturally she felt the same about her own sisters, but there was something different between Amycus and Alecto. "You two are bonded by blood and something just a little stronger," she said, meeting his gaze. "I don't think she would leave you like that, because she needs you as much as you need her. Still, it's best if you begin begin completely truthful with her. Even with this big dark secret you've been keeping. There are some things that are just a passing fancy or trend, but there are others that will always be there. Alecto is one of those."

Narcissa pursed her lips together, but didn't say anything more about Lucius. Amycus was right, Narcissa really didn't know him that well. Everything she knew about him was told to her that night in the potions store room or things she had picked up on observation. It was a fact she didn't much care for and hoped would change soon enough.

"If you do not want to be pushed around, don't allow it Amycus. You have as much control over this as himself. You need to tell her and soon."

Amycus couldn't help but be relieved that Cissy had let the subject drop as easily as she had. He finished his cigarette and slipped the pack back into his pocket, muttering a quick charm to dissipate the smoke and the lingering smell. He wanted to smoke another cigarette but he could always slip back out after he took Cissy home. Or up to his room and smoke a bit if Rabastan wasn't there. Or didn't care.

He listened calmly to what Cissy said about his relationship with Alecto, putting his arm around her in a quick hug when she'd finished. "You're probably right about that," he told her with a quick peck on the cheek before pulling his arm away. "Or at least I hope you are," he told her with a quick smile.

"I don't like keeping things from her. It doesn't feel right," he told Cissy not sure if he was making sense but he didn't know how else to say it.

"I know I do," he said quietly. "And I'm going to. As soon as I can figure out how."

She was a little surprised by the hug and peck on the cheek, but she only smiled. Amycus was a good friend, as was Alecto, and she wanted to make sure they stayed happy. Amycus just needed to figure things out for himself and be completely honest with Alecto. While she may be mad for a little bit of time, she was sure she would always forgive her brother.

"Just do it sooner rather than later," she said, standing up and brushing herself off. "I think you'll be thankful that you did. And then Lucius won't have anything to hold over you." She smiled, nodding her head back towards the castle. "I think I'm going to head back in and finish up my essay. Want to come with?"

"That's excellent advice," Amycus said, pushing himself up off the ground and brushing his pants off. He forced himself to smile at her comment about Lucius, knowing that the other boy would probably just find something else to use to control him. Unfortunately, Amycus had given Lucius plenty of ammunition over the years they'd shared a room.

"Yeah. I need to study some myself. And I meant it about looking over your Charms essay. If you want me too," he said taking her hand in his as they walked back up to the castle.
