Ella was admittedly a little bit nervous about arriving in another country. She had never visited the United States before, and everything looked so different. The buildings, the atmosphere, the weather. It was all different. She was glad for it because she wanted a change, but it was all so unfamiliar that she was having a difficult time allowing herself to enjoy the excitement that was there under the surface.
Zachary was slated to pick her up at the baggage claim, so she left the terminal and followed the signs toward the baggage area. She didn't see her grandfather right away, but she was looking for an older man, the one who she had grown up with and watched as his glamour changed from young to old. She moved up toward the turnstile, tucking her indiscriminate brown/blond hair back behind her ear and adjusting the shoulder bag and rolling carry-on suitcase she towed along with her.
She watched the luggage go around and around, watching for the two big bags she had packed. Moving to another country required taking the most important and essential things. She had clothes enough for a week, only because she knew she could buy more once she got a job. And the rest of it was keepsakes; photo books, portfolio, her flute, things that she just couldn't see leaving behind.
She glanced up and saw a man who looked vaguely familiar, at least, his blond hair did. She squinted a bit, blurring his face and smiled. It was him!
