There had been no missions since the school had been rebuilt. It was almost unspoken that the X-Men needed to focus solely on their own after a time when so many of them had been lost inexplicably, and Logan had been loathe to break the status quo. Not really his usual state of being but his actions no longer affected just him.

Dani had heard about the attack on the students and teachers at the Museum. She was good at overhearing things -- especially when could move about as silently as she could. The attack had Ororo upset... and that led to Dani being upset. Ororo was her friend and mentor, so Dani hadn't seen a problem with eavesdropping on the teachers' conversation to find out what had happened.

Hearing about the attack on the museum and that students and teachers had been kidnapped, Dani had a hard time keeping quiet and a hard time not letting her emotions get out.

She had heard about mutants getting attacked and disappearing, but this was different. These were people she knew. They may not be people she knew well because she was knew, but she still knew them.

It was after dark when she changed into the outfit the Valkyries had given her in Asgard and slipped out of the house to go to Brightwind.

"What do you think about us doing a little bit of recon, my friend? If we fly swift and high, maybe we can gather some sort of clues as to where our friends have been taken, hrm?"

Brightwind dropped his head and stamped his hooves, every bit as ready to go as she was.

Dani felt that she hadn't been spending enough time with Brightwind since coming to the Institute, so she was currently out in back of the main building with her horse. She had bathed him and now was brushing his coat until it gleamed. She seemed to be settling into life here a lot better than she had feared she would. Ms. Munroe had been very welcoming and attentive and she had even met a few more people over the journaling system set up. She was starting to relax a little.

Well, she relaxed until she started worrying that something would accidentally trigger her powers and everyone would look at her like she was a freak. You would think that living among so many people with mutant powers would have eased that fear, but it really hadn't.

There was also the part where she hadn't yet told anyone about the extra powers she had picked up while in Asgard...

Shaking those thoughts away, Dani moved her attention from Brightwind's coat to his wings. He needed help preening the feathers because he couldn't get to them all.

The nice thing about doing a morning run in the Danger Room was that the chances of anyone else using the room were slim to none, even those in a horrible temper.

But Ororo had promised herself she wasn't going to think about that situation this morning. She needed to get a sense of Dani's abilities before she even attempted to start training. That's why she was here this morning rather than brooding into her third cup of coffee. Ok, maybe not brooding. By cup three she was usually regaining her higher brain functions enough to avoid brooding.

The point remained.

Ororo keyed in the programming into the Danger Room while she waited for Dani. The girl said she was powerful, and Ororo didn't doubt that, but first time in the Danger Room, it was best to keep it simple, or relatively anyway.

She finished and stepped onto the platform to wait for Dani. This would be an interesting morning.

Dani was sitting on Brightwind's back as he descended to land in front of the Institute. She still wasn't sure that this was the best plan in the universes, but before he died, her grandfather had wanted her to come here. She had planned on coming here before now, but there had been that whole getting kidnapped to Asgard that had interfered with her plans.

The first time she had come back, it had been to find the institute in ruins and Charles Xavier dead. Then she had been kidnapped to Asgard, helped save the day and become a Valkyrie. She sighed, running a hand along Brightwind's neck as she slid off of his back. Since coming back from Asgard, she had stayed in the mountains where Black Eagle had lived. It was only because of the dream reminding her of her promise to him that she was even here now.

It seemed that even with his friend dead, her grandfather wanted her at the Institute.

"Well, Brightwind, I wonder what happens now."
