[info]trobadora: Decisions to be made

Hi all, here's the mod. With the appearance of Dreamwidth on the journal landscape I've been contemplating possible changes to this community. Just now, Dreamwidth had a few minutes of downtime, so I think it's time to start giving this some more serious thought.

Possible options:

- change nothing, leave everything as it is
- migrate the comm to DW
- stay here, but open the comm up for DW downtime as well

Any thoughts? Other options? I'd love to hear from as many of you as possible; whatever happens should be what suits most of us best, after all.

[info]syderia:

The Status page isn't saying anything, but I'm not able to load any livejournal.com address. Is it just me, or is LJ down ?

ETA : It wasn't just me, but it's back up.
ETA2 : Not back up for everyone.
ETA3 : "LiveJournal may be unresponsive or slow to load; Our Operations staff is working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. -- 4:10 pm GMT (Sunday, April 19)"

[info]sorchasilver: Guess what?

"LiveJournal may be unresponsive or slow to load due to some database problems we're experiencing. Our Operations staff is working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

11:06 pm GMT (Monday, March 9)".

*sigh*

ETA: "The heavily armed monkeys guarding the servers currently report no site-wide problems.

11:41 pm GMT (Monday, March 9)".

Looks like it's back up.

[info]sorchasilver: Here we go again.

LiveJournal Status:

"LiveJournal may be unresponsive or slow to load due to some database problems we're experiencing. Our Operations staff is working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible." - 10:13 pm GMT (Sunday, February 15)

ETA: Seems to be back up, at least some of the way. Still slow to load, and not loading every time just now.

ETA 2: Known Issues update includes the following: " Access to the site is currently slower than normal, and some users are unable to access the site at all. LiveJournal's operations staff are investigating and will resolve this issue as soon as possible."

ETA 3: Status page has been updated: LiveJournal experienced a brief outage at about 10:15 p.m. GMT today (February 15, 2009) due to a memcache issue. The site may be slow to load for about the next 5 minutes while the new memcache tier hash is used and the old is discarded, but after that should return to normal. - 10:26 pm GMT (Sunday, February 15). (Thanks to trobadora for pointing this out.)

[info]trobadora: ... here we go again

LJ would appear to be down again.

The status page just updated:

LiveJournal may be unresponsive or slow to load due to some connectivity problems we're experiencing. Our Operations staff is working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

10:24 pm GMT (Tuesday, January 27)

ETA: It's already working for me again. Keeping my fingers crossed that it'll hold!

ETA #2: Status page is back to normal again too as of 10:31.

[info]trobadora:

The status page has nothing so far, but is it just me, or is LJ down? Again?

This is getting to be a habit. :-(

ETA: Status page update:

The heavily armed monkeys guarding the servers currently fighting off some problems within LiveJournal. The site will return to normal operation as quickly as possible.

12:15 am GMT (Monday, January 19)

ETA #2: And we appear to be up again, yay! That makes it only about 15 minutes that LJ was down. Good job, LJ. :-)

(And the status page has caught up too. Thanks to whoever is updating it so promptly these days!)

[info]vickita: Aaaaaand, again?

I don't care what they say, there are *issues* with LJ uptime these days. Don't know if it has anything to do with the move to Montana (facilities? staff?) or if it's something else, but this just keeps happening. >.<

[info]mrshamill: Here we go again...

I got five bucks that says LJ is bouncing again...

Mon, Jan. 5th, 2009, 04:57 pm
[info]trobadora: LJ not loading?

Is anyone else having trouble getting LJ to load? All I get is blank pages. :-(

ETA: Status page update:

LiveJournal may be unresponsive or slow to load due to some database problems we're experiencing. Our Operations staff is working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

[info]beck_liz: Oh, really?

I know that the Status page says that LJ might be slow to load, but I've been unable to get it to load at all just lately. I decided to go to the LJ homepage just to see if that worked at all, and got this: "LiveJournal.com is currently unavailable for a brief maintenance. The maintenance window lasts from Saturday, December 22nd, 10:00pm PST until at most 11:00pm PST. We'll be up shortly.

Thank you for your patience. "

ETA: The date is now removed, and it just says "unscheduled" maintenance.

[info]sorchasilver: LJ problems

Status page currently reports:

LiveJournal may be unresponsive or slow to load due to some database problems we're experiencing. Our Operations staff is working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

11:39 pm GMT (Monday, December 29)

They're definitely getting faster at updating the status page - usually there's a post here first! *g*

It's not loading for me at all. :(

Mon, Dec. 8th, 2008, 11:04 pm
[info]yavannauk: Status updated

The status page now reports:

LiveJournal is currently down at this time. Our operations and engineering staff is working to resolve the problem and we hope to be back up as soon as possible!!

Downtime? Or is it just me??

Wed, Nov. 26th, 2008, 07:42 am
[info]yavannauk: What's with LJ this time?

Is it just me or is LJ not loading/loading glacially slow yet again? The status page didn't have anything up, but this is driving me crazy!

Tue, Nov. 25th, 2008, 08:23 am
[info]spoonishly:

Wow, LJ, my notifications FINALLY start working and you go down AGAIN. This is getting tiring. Your Montana servers are not robust.

No update from the status page as of yet.

ETA: Of course, I post this and it comes back. SIGH.

ETA II: And, of course, it goes down and, once again, my notifications have stopped coming.

[info]aurora_84:

Boo downtime!!

Status reports no issues so far. (But we know better.)

ETA1: LiveJournal is experiencing some unexpected downtime. We're currently working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.
9:01 pm GMT (Saturday, November 22)
-- status

ETA2: We're back!!

Tue, Nov. 18th, 2008, 08:06 pm
[info]bwinter: End of November maintenance

And it's back :) That was fast.

Servers are slow still, mind you. For people with Paid and Permanent accounts, try to view the source of LJ pages:

LiveJournal ExpressLane: You received this page before 612 free users, saving approximately 9 seconds!

[info]trobadora:

I would like to state for the record:
  • Twitter also went down just now. (Twitter is currently down for database maintenance. We expect to be back in about an hour. Thanks for your patience.)

  • The LJ status page is only loading intermittently

  • And IJ seems to be having trouble loading as well.

LJ going down takes everything down? ;)

[info]trobadora: The Great LJ Downtime Write-Off! (or not)

... aaaaaaaaaand it's DOWN!

LJ has now truly left us for a couple of hours. Whatever are we supposed to do with ourselves?!

We could all just cling to each other, cry on each other's shoulders and tear our collective hair while we wait for LJ to return. Or we could actually do something!

Write, for example.

Here's [info]telesilla's suggestion:
There should be a write-off. Everyone can sit down and work on whatever project they're working on for four hours and then see what kind of progress people make.

Don't we all have something we should be writing? NaNoWriMo or NaBloPoMo or Yuletide or other SeSa assignments ... or some other project we'd really like to make some sort of progress on. Why not now, when the usual distractions are removed?

It's got to be worth a try.

So go forth and write! And then come back and tell us all about it, so we can share in your glory. *g*

(If you need some additional incentive to write, there's always Write or Die - start writing, keep writing, and do not stop. If you do, it will nag you. And produce unpleasant noise. Or even, with the right settings, unwrite your work. It's evil, I tell you, evil. And it may just work for you. *g*)

Oh, and for those of you who, like me, can't get anything useful done when LJ is down because its absence is too distracting ... hi! What are you doing to keep yourself busy during the downtime?

[info]trobadora:

Status page:

LiveJournal is currently down due to migration to a new server facility. The window of planned downtime is from 8 a.m. to noon PST (4 p.m. to 10 p.m. GMT/UTC) on Tuesday, November 18, 2008.

(Er, it's actually still up as I type this, but nonetheless.)
