Justin was in afoul mood. The downpour of rain had been keeping people inside, and he had only a few people in the diner, two of which he was pretty sure were simply waiting for the rain to let up long enough for them to make a run for home. Given the weather, he had sent most of the staff home but for the cook, willing to wait on any patrons himself, since he was already losing money keeping the place open.
It was inching toward three in the afternoon when he took a seat in one of the booths after serving a burger to a woman at the counter. There was a semi-permanent scowl on his face, and he began to work on the employee schedule for the next week, immediately penciling Zania's name into the night shifts. He really needed to check in on her, and Justin made a mental note to do that soon. |
