Vic [Wednesday Morning]
Sophie - as their assigned simulated infant was inevitably called - was both a very practical creature, and an artist of chaos theory. Just when Noah thought he had her schedule down she would change things on him. Even attempting to calculate all the known variables usually left his numbers off by a good 60 minutes. Which was frustrating and challenging all at once.

It was also the reason he was soothing a squalling mass of sophisticated artificial intelligence at four-thirty in the morning in Victor's room. They'd learned fairly early into the project Victor did not respond well to being awoken to cater to Sophie's needs. So Noah had taken to sleeping in the spare bed - as Victor currently did not have a roommate - to spare the hinges on the doors in getting to her as quickly as possible.

Noah took it, a slight look of disgust on his face. "What use would that lifestyle be?"

"I'm just saying," Vic shrugged. "All the running and exercising and getting up early and stuff? Probably aren't actually doing anything for you...except filling the time you run and exercise and stuff."

"They serve a functional purpose," he assured him.

"If you say so." Vic patted Sophie's back absently, forgetting for the moment that she wasn't real with the warm weight of her on his chest as he leaned back. "Far as I'm concerned, so does sleeping 'til 6:30. And sex. Sex definitely serves a functional purpose."

Vic smirked. "Not that one," he pointed out.

Noah's brow furrowed slightly.

"Well, I figure you're probably thinking making babies," Vic pointed out, still smirking, and patting Sophie by way of illustration.

"And you aren't." That much had been made quite clear.

"Exactly." Vic grinned at him. "There's exercise, relaxation, stress relief, mood elevation." He was trying to rattle things off the way Noah did, as if the practical benefits were necessary to justify the activity.

"Noah, it's, like, five in the damn morning. My brain isn't functional. Just about anything that isn't Sophie crying or me having to actually get up and do something is amusing. Not to mention you not seeming to believe that sex can do all of those things is, honestly, pretty amusing."

"The existence of your species requires the furtherance of its genetic code. Offspring may not be enjoyable, but they are valuable. They are our greatest resource. We ourselves are a resource to our elders. As our young will one day be for us. We are all only helpless and small for so long, Victor."

"Hey, I'm not arguing that one," Vic insisted. "More people is good. Mostly. But that is so not even close to being the only practical benefit of sex."
