Being shy at a big school, Lois had discovered, was drastically different than being shy at a small school. At her small school in London, she'd been stared at, questioned, and corralled until she was fully integrated. Here in New York, she was a small fish in a big pond. New kids weren't unusual, so she wasn't some rare commodity. And with so many people, it was easy to disappear.

After everything that had happened, with her powers and with her family, she'd been all too happy to do it. The library had become her favorite place. When she wasn't sleeping, running, or in class, she was in the library. After a long week of robot-child care, she was thrilled to be back amongst the books.

With the beginnings of an armload of book, Lois wandered amongst the shelves in search of her next choice. She ended up sitting on the floor in the middle of an aisle, her books beside her, as she scrutinized the titles on the lowest shelves with an expression of intense interest.
