Alex merely shrugged in response. "As I keep saying, it was nothing." He muttered, rubbing the back of his neck as he spoke.

DP's head jerked sideways as the two came in the door, eyeing them both -- then relaxing slightly as his gaze lingered on Alex. After a moment, "...septic shock generally causes death before it's discovered." He nodded to Alex. "You must be a good chiurgeon."

Alex eyed DP with a guarded expression, his brow furrowing slightly as the other man spoke. He shrugged again. "Decent enough I guess." He looked away again and pulled at his collar, attempting to hide the rope burn.

DP nodded, then smiled as Snap wuffed at him, tail wagging -- clearly, his attention had wandered for a bit too long, and the dog was determined to correct this error. Obediently, DP offered him another bite, then settled more comfortably into his corner to finish eating, watching the others in the room out of the corner of his eye.

He noted the way the other man favoured one arm, and the shrug to hike the collar up higher on his neck, and frowned to himself. He also watched the new girl, carefully, and how the others interacted with her.

India touched Alex's elbow. "You should eat." She shot a look at Kara's booted feet, and moved towards a pair of chairs, encouraging Alex softly

Kara rolled her eyes but dropped her booted feet with a thud.

Alex's eyes flicked to the dog as he barked, ducking his head to hide the small smile that tugged at the corner of his lips.
He stiffened and moved his elbow away as India touched it. "I...I'm really not hungry..." He muttered, but moved the chair so it was away from the others and sat down in it.

Without looking up, DP commented, softly, "When was the last time you ate, mate?" His eyes flicked over at Alex, once, then back to his own plate as he picked up the bannock and started to nibble on it.

Alex stiffened and let out an exasperated breath. "It doesn't matter when I last ate. What matters is I'm not hungry." He shot back without turning to look at DP.

Still not looking up, DP answered, speaking in a soft, almost clinically impersonal tone, "Its common for symptoms of hunger to stop if the subject hasn't had anything to eat in the last 36 to 48 hours -- and if you don't eat within 48 to 72 hours your mental abilities begin to become impared." He glanced up, then shrugged. "Also, your digestive system begins to shut down and food becomes something that needs to be reintroduced slowly. I can make you some broth if you like, from some of this -- but considering that none of us know when our next meal is going to be coming, avoiding a meal when its offered isn't the best of ideas."

He paused, then turned and considered Alex more directly. With a shrug, he added, "First rule of Search and Rescue, mate -- can't help others if you are in need of help yourself." His head tipped, curiously, casually. "...are you in need of help?"

Alex clenched his jaw slightly and ran a hand through his hair a few times. "I'm well aware of all that...but thank you so much for pointing it all out." He muttered, sarcasm dripping from his words. He picked up a bannock and absently turned it over in his hands several times.

He turned enough so he could regard DP with a quirked eyebrow, before rolling his eyes. "I'm fine." He said curtly, still absently turning the bannock.

His lip curled in that faint smile, and he nodded, turning back to his dog, satisfied.

Alex snorted and rolled his eyes, breaking off a small bit of the bannock and popping it into his mouth without even really noticing. That was until he swallowed it and winced at the slight pain it caused in his throat.

"You should let someone see to that." India's voice was it usual soft measured tones.

"It's fine." Alex muttered, slumping slightly in the chair. "Told you...it's been seen to."
