Kitchen Section
Moving away from the open area you find a tiny area set up as a kitchen, with a gap between to store the canned food acting as a corridor.

DP looked up, sharply, at that. "No." His voice is firm, and stronger than it has been yet. "No. Never feel guilty for surviving -- that's what will get you killed, and that's what'll take everyone else with you." He turned and pointed at the door, jabbing his finger at it firmly. "You might as well walk out there right now, and save Death the trouble of coming to find you, and us the trouble of trying to save you, as to feel guilty about being alive." Snap's head came up and he bounced to his feet to bring the ball over to them, tail wagging happily.

Then, suddenly, as if suddenly aware of how loud and aggressive that sounds, DP flushes and eases back a step, dropping his eyes and turning his attention back to the food, flipping the oatcakes. Looking down, he nodded at Snap, then kicked the ball the dog dropped, sending the dog scrambling after it.

Sally cracked a slight smile. "Us huh?" She dropped away from the wall and came to stand beside him. "You do know you're both welcome to stay with us?"

DP flinched back slightly, unconsciously avoiding contact as she came up next to him, his near shoulder rising in a faint, defensive cringe as his chin dropped and he shifted his weight away. He shuffled the oatcakes on the pan once, then turned and neatly flipped them onto a clean spot on the table to cool. "...I rather got the impression that I was expected to stay." He glanced at her, that crooked half smile flickering into view for a moment before vanishing again into a nervous grimace. "....but I appreciate the invitation." He looked up at her again, briefly, before focussing on the ball Snap had brought back.

He shuffled it once with his feet, then kicked it again, some of the tension in his body easing as the motion put a bit of distance between them. He smiled at her again, shyly, as he leaned against the table.

"Well it's there." Sally said, aware of the tension. "I didn't use to be great with people either...India weans you off that at least to some extent."

DP frowned slightly, in confusion. "Off what?" He bent, and tugged Snap in for a quick hug and scratch, then tossed her the ball. "Here, you throw it."

"Off the fact that you have to work alone I suppose." Sally took the ball, grinning at the dog. "Don't I get a hug?" She asked Snap softly.

Snap launched himself at her, leaping for the ball and vaulting off her thighs in an attempt to reach it, ears up and eyes half-mad with delight. Excited, he spun in a circle, barked, once, a high-pitched screech of a bark, then vaulted off her thighs again, harder, teeth clicking just short of the ball.

DP laughed. "I never work alone. Throw the ball, or he'll clip your fingers by accident -- then you'll have deal with his apologies and that's worse!"

Sally laughed softly, vaulting the ball away from her. "I did work alone...I don't think I had long left to live when they found me." The second phrase was slow, like an unwilling admittance of defeat.

DP watched as the dog scrambled after the ball, then took it when Snap returned with it. He spent a moment teasing the dog -- feinting one way, then the other, watching Snap's delighted bounce from side to side to intercept -- then rolled it at him slowly. Snap watched the ball, eyes avid, neck arched, prancing backwards several steps to let the ball roll....then pounced again, snapping up the sphere and chewing hard on it in delight.

DP looked up at Sally, eyes sober. "Its hard to be alone."

"I used to think I could live with it...That it was easier not getting others involved." Sally said softly, smiling after the dog. "I can happily say I was wrong."
