Tony was having a having a hard time trying to balance a puppy, a coat, and a briefcase as he struggled to get in the house. Pepper's car was in the driveway, so he knew at least she was in the house, and he was sure she probably hadn't left Matt behind.Trying to be as quiet as possible, he ended up dropping the coat and briefcase on the floor because the puppy wouldn't keep still. Tony had paid the owner of the kennel a lot to get up in the middle of the night and open so he could fetch the little guy. He had wanted him home as soon as Matt and Pepper were there just in case they weren't there when he arrived tonight because he was definitely passing out soon. He was exhausted and jus wanted to sleep, but he would hold out long enough to see them.

Now if he could just get upstairs without the puppy waking them up.

"Mhmm," he said as he hugged her tightly. "I didn't want to tell you because I wanted to surprise you. I put the puppy in Matt's bed so be prepared for him to run in here when he wakes up." Softly, he ran his fingers through her hair as he curled in closer to her. "I was hoping you guys would be here when I came home." And he wished he could have seen them open their gifts, but he was just glad they'd gotten to come over.

"Before Matt wakes up, I need to put out a few things Santa brought him. Think he's too young for a tricycle?" Because he wasn't sure since at Matt's age he was building computers.

Holding onto him tightly, she grinned at him. "It's a very good surprise. Oh you did? Oh he's going to love that, I can't wait to see the puppy.." she leaned up and kissed him lightly on the lips. "I was so sad that I wasn't going to get to see you at all.. this is much better.." she kissed against his neck and then hugged him again.

"A tricycle huh? I think so yeah. Should we go put the stuff by the tree before he gets up?" she asked.

Tony smiled softly, "I didn't mean to make you sad, but I just wanted to have a nice surprise for you. Speaking of that, Santa brought you something, too," he purred as he nuzzled against her more. He hadn't meant to make her feel that way while he was gone, and he'd hoped that being in his house that it'd alleviate the feeling. But nothing had made him feel better until he was holding her.

"Yeah, probably should because I don't know how long the puppy will let him sleep."

She did have to admit it was a nice surprise. "Oh he did? Oh goodie.." she grinned and nuzzled back against him as they curled up on the bed. It had felt much better being in the house even though he hadn't been there. But it was still much better with him there then without. "Mm okay.." she kissed him again and then got up out of the bed and went to put on pants just because it was probably colder downstairs.

"All right let's go be Santa.."

Her gift was hidden in his briefcase, and if he hadn't had the puppy in hand, he could have slid it under the tree while he'd been downstairs. Oh well. Sliding out of bed, he went over to his dresser and pulled out a pair of pajama bottoms and slid into them.

Now he had to remember where he hid the stuff...

"Go on downstairs, I'll be there in a sec." And he walked just down the hall to the puppy's room where he remembered he'd stuck things and locked it before he left. Once he got down there, he had the tricycle in one hand and a big bag that had a few other things in it.

"Okee.." she beamed at him and headed downstairs, figuring he was going to get her present or something while she was waiting downstairs for him. She got a glass of water while she waited and when he got downstairs with some packages she went to go help him get the stuff and put it under the tree since he had his hands full. "Gee did you get him enough stuff?" she giggled.

She was teasing. Mostly.

Well, one of her wrapped gifts was in the bag, the other he'd bought while he'd been off, having made a special stop on the way back in Paris to get her gift. "Uncle Tony spoils him, what can I say? I'm sure he'll ignore every bit of it once he starts playing with the puppy. Or our luck he ignores the puppy and plays with this instead. It's like having a small hotdog shaped baby."

Sitting the tricycle down in front of the tree, Tony pulled out some other things like video games, a Leapfrog pad, and the like and stuck them around the bike.

Pepper couldn't help but laugh, "Hot dog shaped baby? That's so.. so wrong.." but she was giggling anyway. She helped put everything out, trying not to glance over at the boxes and bags that were supposed to be hers. "You totally spoiled him. And he already opened all his packages.." she shook her head in amusement.

Just then she heard a squeal come from upstairs and the door fling open. "Oh.. I think that's our cue."

"PEPPY DOGGIE."

"I expected him to open them all, hence why I hid all of this stuff. I wanted a surprise somewhere." Then his head popped up as he heard Matt squealing upstairs. Looks like the puppy licked him or he finally woke up." Tony hurried up and finished placing the other stuff then slid over to the side to sit on the floor by the tree, waiting for Matt to come downstairs with the puppy.

It wasn't long before he saw the little redhead climbing down, trying to hold the puppy as he made his way toward them. "Hey little guy, what did Santa bring you?"

"PUPPY!!"

Spotting the little redhead coming down the stairs she went over to him so that she could hopefully catch the poor dog if he was getting strangled or dropped by the kid. "A puppy oh wow look.. Santa brought you a puppy! It's so cute! Here you should hold him like a baby okay?" she moved his hands so he wasn't struggling with the poor dog. It was the cutest dog she'd ever seen.

Matthew just kept giggling and held onto his little dog until he got down the stairs all the way and then let him go. The puppy took the opportunity to run around a bit and come and lick Pepper in the face. "LOOK PEPPY. A DOGGIE PUPPY." he was really excited and could probably bust ear drums.

He was definitely louder than Tony had anticipated as the wince on his face clearly displayed. Clearing out his ear, he craned back on his arms and watched as Matthew played with the puppy, the little dog trying to nip at his ankles as he ran around him.

While they played with the puppy, Tony took the time to go in his briefcase and grab the long box wrapped in shiny purple and silver gift paper. "Hey Matt, come here. Give this to your sister and tell her Santa brought it to her."

Then Matt bounced over to Tony and took the package, walked over to Pepper and held it out for her to take. "Tony says Santa brought you something, Peppy." Inside, she'd find this.

Pepper tried not to cover her ears or anything. But she was used to squeals like that, just not lately. She was busy petting the puppy and cuddling it to notice that Matthew had gone to get a box from Tony until Matthew was in front of her face.

She put the dog down and took the box. "Oh he did? Thank you Mattie." she kissed the top of his head. Then she started to unwrap the present and opened up the box. She blinked when she saw what was inside. "Holy shit." she blinked, "Sorry.. potty mouth." but really. Holy shit. And she never cursed. Those were sparkly. And pretty. "Tony.. I.. wow.. they're gorgeous.." she laughed some.

"Where am I supposed to wear all of this?"

"That's not all. Here," he said as he got on his hands and knees and reached under the tree where he put her other gift. "Something to put them in." Crawling over to her on his knees, he shuffled the short distance and handed the wrapped package. Inside was a jewelry box for her to put all the other items inside. "We'll find some occasion for you to wear them. You might have to wait until your graduation. I just saw them and thought of you, so..." he said with a shrug. "It's okay if you can't wear them right now."

Taking the second package, she went and opened it up. "Oh nice. I'm actually kind of surprised you have this good taste in women's things.." though maybe she shouldn't have been so surprised. She carefully took her jewelry and put them into the box. "They're gorgeous, I can't wait to wear them some place nice when I can. Thank you.." she moved over to him and then kissed him soundly on the lips.

"Hey, I'm not completely inept in womanly things..." though he ran his hand over the back of his neck, "I kind of got the sales woman's help though," he shyly admitted. "I picked the color. Sort of," Yeah he was horrible at that kind of thing. It was a wonder he dressed himself at times. Kissing her back just as firmly, he pulled her close to him and hugged her in his arms. "Merry Christmas, Pepper."

She just grinned at him, "Whatever way you picked it out, it was the right choice." her arms wrapped around him tightly, hugging him. She kissed him again and then let him go a little, "Merry Christmas, Tony. You have to open your presents. And we have to name the puppy.." Because meanwhile Matt had pretty much gone and started to open up his other presents that he could tell were his cause he could read his name.

"I don't know what name him," he said as he leaned down and picked up the puppy, scratching behind its ears. His little back leg kicked as Tony found its ticklish spot, and he couldn't help but laugh as the little paw fidgeted. "Aw, looks like we have something in common." Because if he was hit in just the right place, his leg twitched, too. "So. I have presents?"

She grinned again cause the leg twitching thing was cute. "Aww.. that's so cute.." she reached up and scratched Tony behind the ears too to see if he was going to have a leg twitch too. "Oh right, presents.." she got up and went under the tree and grabbed the boxes and handed them over for him to open. They were nice things that she thought he'd like but since Pepper's player sucks at picking out presents, just pretend they're awesome.

Tony's head tilted more into her fingers scratching behind his ear. He twitched but not in the leg anyway, but he did like the feeling, so he wasn't going to tell her to stop. Setting the puppy down on the floor to run around, he started opening his gifts one at a time. "Well, that's...quirky," he said as he lifted the shirt out of the box that already had a hole made in it just for his arc reactor. "That's weird enough for me to like it." In it he also found a variety of little things that were just quirky enough that Tony liked them a lot. Then there was the picture of Tony drawn as Iron man that Matt had done and gave him. "Thank you.." he said, kissing Pepper then moving to ruffle his hand through Matt's hair.

Watching as Tony opened his presents, she was glad that he liked what she got for him. "I just thought it was easier.. or something.." she blushed some and kissed him in return. "All right so what shall we name this puppy, huh Matt? Do you wanna name him?"

Matt looked up from whatever he was doing and wandered over to the two of them and the dog. "Name him Tony!" he announced. Pepper laughed, "But Tony's name is Tony.. can't call him Tony, we'd get them confused."

"I've cut holes in some of my shirts already, but you're right, it is easier when they don't snag." But he did love everything they'd given him. He couldn't remember the last time he had really thoughtful gifts given to him or him giving anything to someone that wasn't something standard like a fruit basket. He was having a real Christmas for the first time in over ten years.

"Yeah, let's not do that. I know it's hard to tell the difference between two slobbering hounds as it is," he joked. "Let's try again."

Tony cocked an eyebrow. "See? We ended up with a baby. A hotdog shaped baby. I feel like a single parent now," he said as he pursed his lips. He cut his eyes over to Pepper, who was fighting the urge to laugh at the predicament. "God, give me a weapon or project to name and I'm fine, but naming a warm-blooded animal and I suck at it." He propped his head in his hand and looked at the puppy which was giving him those eyes. "What about something like Nero or Archimedes or something?" Then again, Matt couldn't pronounce half of that.

"A single parent? Jeeze.." she couldn't help stick her tongue out at him. But the fact that they couldn't name this poor dog was just too funny. So she decided to put her brain to work. "Um no. He doesn't know and won't remember that. How about we name the puppy..." she paused, thinking through all the names she could think of. "Ketchup? Since he's a hotdog. Or maybe Rhodey." What? It wasn't like there was actually one around.

He'd only been teasing her. It wasn't like she was going to leave him defenseless to take care of the puppy. He knew they'd be over as often as possible. "Ketchup is cute. We've got a condiment theme going on here, Pepper," he said, putting emphasis on her nickname. "My two favorite condiments. "So let's call him Ketchup. That poor dog. We're going to scar him for life." Hopping up on the couch, he stretched his legs out and picked up the puppy, who immediately went for trying to chew at the corner of the arc reactor through Tony's shirt. Matt ran up and hugged Tony's neck where he just pulled the kid on up to sit in his lap to play with the puppy.
