Who: Tony, Pepper and baby Matt
What: Putting up Christmas decorations and stuff

Pepper had been lucky. Her parents had decided they needed to go off for a weekend just by themselves to see if they could patch things up. It meant that Pepper was going to have to watch her baby brother Matt the entire time but she didn't mind mostly for one reason. She'd called Tony later on, telling him that her parents were leaving, and he suggested that they both stay the weekend with him. That was music to her ears.

After the week was up, her parents packed up their things and kissed their children goodbye and headed off into the sunset. She waited an hour before she called Tony to tell him they were coming over. She got Matt's things all together for the weekend and her own and then put him into the car and drove over to Tony's.

To which he frowned because he got the sense that he did hurt her feelings with what he said or there was something bothering her that she didn't want him to know. "I'll get the shower ready while you go in and check on him." Matt was usually good about staying asleep once he'd been put to bed, and on the occasions he did wake up, he always crawled in bed with them, preferring the safety of Tony's "night light" as Matt called it. He parted ways with her and headed into the bedroom to the shower where he turned the water on to let it run warm for them.

"Okay.." she gave another small smile so that he wasn't so worried and then headed inside Matt's bedroom. He was kind of curled up on his side, clutching at a bear that Tony had bought him. He didn't wake up as she came inside and kissed the top of his head then his cheek. He kind of squirmed but fell back asleep and she covered him up again and headed back towards the bathroom, slipping off her clothes again as she went and shut the door behind her.

Tony had just taken off his boxers and stepped in the shower when she'd come in, shifting toward the front of it so she could step into it behind him. She may have smiled to keep him from worrying, but he knew. He'd struck some kind of nerve, and it bugged him whether she wanted it to or not. He just wished she'd tell him what he'd said that did bother her. As much as he tried to hide it, there was still a glimmer of worry on his face before he tried to hide it as she got in the shower with him.

If she noticed that he was still worried on his face she was ignoring that too. It was just something she'd have to get over. After all what he said was true about not having the time when she thought they should see each other at least once a week. Maybe she was just naive. Yeah she probably was. Instead she got into the shower and started to wash up without much talking though she did hum a little to herself.

Ducking his head under the spray, he soaked his hair thoroughly and ran his fingers through it as he watched her washing up. "Pepper, I--" and he wiped his hand down his face before he took a step forward and took her in his arms. "If I said something wrong, I didn't mean to hurt your feelings," he confessed as he wrapped his arms around her tightly. "I love you, and I love Matt, and I'm doing my best at this....sometimes I just falter."

When his arms wrapped around her she sighed a little bit and put her arms back around him. It wasn't like she was really mad at him. "It's okay Tony.. really. I just.. I know that it's hard, you don't have to talk to me like I'm a little kid. I understand. I know I can't have everything the way I want it. It doesn't mean I can't say.. that I wish it could be that way."

He hadn't meant to talk down to her. God knows he hated that kind of thing himself, but sometimes he did look at her and remember that she was a kid compared to him. That what they did and had was wrong by normal standards, but Tony never did go by the book and he wasn't a normal man. Normal men didn't have electromagnets keeping them clinging to life or genius IQ's. "I'm sorry," he said as he tightened his hug. "I didn't mean to make you feel like that, but one day, we won't have to hide it all. I'll be able to take you out and go on real dates."

She didn't really want to be reminded of that either. She already felt enough like a kid without him having to rub it in. "I know.." she said softly, putting her arms around him a bit more and putting her wet head down against his chest. "It's okay I would have just gotten over it." It was starting to feel nice enough just hugging him that she didn't want to finish showering even though she knew she should.

"I know, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't apologize." He pushed her wet hair back from her face and neck and slowly stroked her shoulder as he held her and found himself having trouble letting go of her. But they needed to finish showering and get dressed for bed because it was only a matter of time before Matt would crawl into bed with them. At least they had a whole weekend together to make up for lost time.

Just nodding her head she leaned up and kissed him lightly on the lips before reluctantly pulling back. She went to finish showering and run conditioner through her hair before it was all done. She was probably going to take longer then he was. when they were done she shut off the shower and grabbed towels for the both of them, handing him his. Then she dried off and got out so that she could go get dressed.
