In truth, Matt had a lot of hard weeks in his life. Between losing his father, Basic and beyond, getting divorced, losing his grandmother, and so on and so forth, Matt could usually take a hit and roll with it. He wasn't the kind of guy to really let much eat away at him. Typically, he would suck it up, deal with it and move on. It was just how he operated. He always wanted to be in control of his emotions because he had seen what he was capable when he wasn't. When Matt let his temper fly, it wasn't pretty and usually someone ended up getting pretty hurt, even if that someone was Matt. So, he learned to just to let things roll off his back, or deal with them when he could. He knew that he never wanted to be that person who had the cops called on him because he was causing a scene. No, Matt dealt with things maybe a little too calmly, analytically, more in Sarge mode than anything else. But this whole business with getting turned, it threw him. And now that he was on the other side of his first time, he was dealing with things a lot better. Yes, he wasn't looking forward to the next one, but he at least had a better idea of what to expect and that lingering anxiety of what was going to happen and what it would be like was off of his chest. There were things he knew, and there were things he could compartmentalize. He knew that he wouldn't be alone, even if he didn't quite know people all that well yet. Matt knew that Nuno would be there before and after. And he knew that one way or another he would survive, because it was just what he did. He still had questions, and he wanted to figure out ways to maybe make it easier on himself. Or if he couldn't, maybe see a light at the end of the tunnel. His biggest fear was still that he would hurt someone, an innocent. He was afraid that somehow all of his training would leak into his wolf brain and he would be considered a threat. Matt usually didn't mind being considered one, it usually meant people left him alone when he wanted to be. Or just didn't fuck with him in general. But this time, he really didn't want to be viewed in that way. He wanted to hide in the shadows and not be noticed. He also knew that probably wouldn't happen to some degree, but, he wanted to find a way to make that happen. But first food. All of the food. He'd spend the first part of the week recovering, and now that he was feeling mostly normal, he started to feel up to what was now normal hungry for him. He had gotten off of work not that long ago, and he had forgotten to drop off a book to Kenna yesterday so he made it a point to drop it off after work. And not that he had done what he had promised, he decided to grab some food before heading home. Well, a snack before home. And by "snack" he meant a few slices of one of the greatest foods on the planet, pizza. It wasn't bad here, but Matt would also admit he was very picky when it came to pizza and being down right spoiled with having an amazing pizza shop just down the block from where he grew up. But this would do. Matt was waiting for his order and decided to wait outside for a few minuets as it was getting a little too warm in the restaurant for him to wait. As he leaned against a wall that didn't have a space of window on it he noticed someone approaching. The man looked familiar and Matt was trying to remember where, if only because he'd met so many new people over the past month he was doing his best to keep track of them all. The man seemed friendly enough so Matt relaxed the look on his face to a mix of neutral and approachable. "Sup?" he asked when the other man approached out of a bit of reflex. |
