RP: They say it's your birthday...
Date: 22 August 1997
Characters: Percy Weasley, Penelope Clearwater, others?
Location: The Leaky Cauldron
Summary: Percy celebrates his birthday...in...style?
He was twenty-one today.
Percy was twenty-one and had very little to show for it. He had no birthday cake, no presents. He hadn't even received a card, and instead of eating his favorite meal with his family, he was sitting at a table, alone, at the Leaky Cauldron.
It wasn't pathetic or sad.
He wasn't surprised that he hadn't heard anything from his family. His mum had likely given up trying to send him gifts by now; he and his father were well-practiced in pretending they didn't know the other existed. He couldn't think of anything worse than meeting the twins, Ron, or Ginny in a dark alley, and Bill and Charlie... Well, after his absence at the wedding, he doubted they cared what he was up to, either. Percy was a lousy brother. Undoubtedly the worst sibling in the family, if it were put to a vote.
There was nothing like a birthday to sober you up and make you realize what a bleeding idiot you'd been.
He reached for his pint glass and took a long sip. He should've asked Penny to join him. She'd sent him his journal earlier today. She would have been guaranteed company, and friendly company at that. He had buggered up a lot of his life, but his friendship with Penny was still strong, and he was grateful for it. If she had to leave--to hide--he would be left with practically nothing. He'd royally effed up his relationship with his family, and the rest of it...
Well. The rest of it hadn't really existed anyway. This, he supposed, was where selfishness got you. Ambition brought you to the top, but it was a rather lonely place to be.
