RP: All the good little Death Eaters
Date: 15 August 1997
Characters: Bellatrix Lestrange, Xavier Selwyn, Herbert McGavin and wife (NPC)
Location: Malfoy Manor
Status: Private
Summary: A couple of colleagues discuss the month's progress. Oh and go and kill people. So, um, read at your own risk.
Completion: Complete

The audience with the Dark Lord had gone well enough, Xavier decided as he bowed to his master and left the room. How could it not when their plans were moving along at breakneck pace? The Ministry was nearly entirely in their hands, though the few exceptions did anger the Dark Lord.

One of those would be remedied quite soon. In fact, he had someone to find. He was giving himself a promotion, which was a long time coming, in his estimation. He was sick of being the head of one measly section of a department when he knew he was destined to be much more. He'd pled his case to the Dark Lord, pointing out the man's ancestry - no sense in waiting for Umbridge's Commission to do its work. It might take some time, and they needed control over the Floo and Portkey systems immediately.

The idea of it was enough to make him whistle a jaunty tune as he made his way out toward the front doors of Malfoy Manor.

At the voice, he turned, spotting Bellatrix immediately.

"I'm getting a promotion, my dear. It's cause for celebration, don't you think?" he asked, smiling at her. Oh yes, Herbert McGavin was soon going to be removed from Xavier's life entirely. He really couldn't get any happier than that.

"Oh, that is wonderful news." Bellatrix sauntered toward him, the hint of future foul play in his tone sparking her interest. "Congratulations are in order."

"Tell me," she purred, "is your superior aware of your good fortune?"

Xavier laughed, the sound echoing off the marble. "Oh, of course he isn't. But he will be, quite soon, in fact."

He thought a moment and then smirked at her. Such boons should be shared, after all, and having someone to keep an eye out for nosy neighbors and the like. "Would you care to accompany me to inform him of his demotion?"

Bellatrix's laugh was bright and sharp, like shards of fine crystal drawn across the skin, and her smile shone brilliantly, taking years off her appearance and showing the great beauty she had been before madness and Azkaban had taken their toll.

"Oh, I would be most pleased to aid you in your endeavor." She summoned her cloak from somewhere in the depths of the Manor and slung it around her shoulders with a flourish. Drawing her silver mask from a deep pocket, she stroked the smooth surface. "Will this be a formal affair?" she asked gesturing with the mask, "or shall I go as I am?"

She was more than a bit mad, but there was something about her that Xavier couldn't help but find amusing. Especially when that temper of hers was directed at someone else.

"Well, perhaps more formal for the beginning, but for the fun, there's no reason to be shy." He fastened his own cloak around him, and from the pocket, he pulled out his own mask. It was always good to be prepared when having an audience with the Dark Lord.

"The proper form for these things should always be observed. What good is ritual if it is disregarded?"

Bellatrix settled her mask on her face, closing her eyes to relish the familiar brush of the magics that held it in place. She was pleased when Xavier offered her his arm without prompting. So few of the lesser Death Eaters had any notion of proper manners. Once things had settled, she would have to see if she could weedle permission from her Lord to change that.

A timid little wretch of a house elf appeared to open the heavy front doors for them. "I shall let you Apparate us, Mr. Selwyn," she said grandly once they reached the boundary of the Apparation Point.

As he'd thought, a good more than a bit mad, but he nodded, setting his own mask in place. He'd already sussed out McGavin's house quite some time ago, just in case just such an opportunity presented itself.

"Thank you," he said, surprised she trusted him that much. Taking out his wand, they were gone with a crack, only to reappear at a house in a horrifyingly Muggle neighborhood. His lip curled behind his mask as he surveyd everything. The darkness hid them well, but those damnable automatic lights lit up the front of the townhome. "He's married to a Muggle. Mudblood himself, and their son is a Muggle, as well."

The worst sort of family, really. It would be a pleasure. "You can take the wife and son, if he's in residence. McGavin's mine."

Bellatrix's pale eyes locked on his for a long moment at the tone of near command in his voice. She'd let that go for now as he was useful and slightly charming. He would learn quickly enough that only two people could speak to her so and as he was neither Lord nor Husband, he was not one of them.

"Very well," she said finally. "Go on then. Announce us."

Xavier wasn't sure why she was looking at him like that. It was his party, after all, she was but a guest. He nodded and pointed his wand at the door.

"No sense in being impolite, is there?" he asked. A surge of red emanated from his wandpoint, shattering the frame, the door splintering to pieces. He turned to Bellatrix. "After you, my lady."

Bella was across the threshhold very nearly before the echo of his spell had time to die away. Despite her heavy, full skirts and floor length cloak, she moved with swift, negligent ease into the extremely plebian home.

She parried a flaring spell from the Mudblood without thought, focusing instead on the screaming woman. The creature was actually scrambling toward the fireplace. Was it thinking of fleeing? No, it would seem it thought to defend itself and its den with poker.

How charming.

How futile.

She cast a wordless spell at the woman and smiled to see the creature drop the poker and scream once more, in pain this time and not panic. "Poor dear. It must be hard to hold onto your little metal stick with the blood in your hands turned to ice. Shall we see what happens as the spell creeps toward your heart?"

Really, she was mad. But she was a madwoman on his side, and he was pleased she was there. It would have been over far too soon if she hadn't been. The son appeared to be away, as well, as there were only two glasses on the table.

Flicking his wand, he disarmed his boss, who was scrambling toward his wife, rotund belly sliding along the floor. Xavier kicked the door shut behind him. It creaked, half of it falling outward.

"Now now, McGavin, that's not the way to greet an employee. I think I'll have to report your behavior to the Minister," he snarled, reaching up and taking off his mask. His movement attracted the attention of Herbert, and he smirked as recognition flared. "You should have retired years ago, McGavin!"

He murmured and his boss was flung against the wall, breath knocked out of him. He grinned. He wouldn't have as much time tonight, unfortunately, but the end justified the means.

The heavy thud of a body hitting the wall dislodged a fine haze of plaster dust from the ceiling and distracted Bella's attention from the creature clawing at its own limbs at her feet.

"Really, Xavier, if you must soil my robes, can it not be with something more fun? Like blood or tears?" She pocketed her mask and flipped back her hood. As she shook her dark hair loose, she watched McGavin from the corner of her eye. The man was already panicking from being attacked by his subordinant, but it was gratifying to see fresher, deeper terror bloom on his face when he recognized who exactly had his sub-human mate at her mercy.

The woman's mewling cries were being to grate on her nerves. Perhaps a different tone of pain would be more pleasing.

"Crucio," Bellatrix said lanquidly. As screams built upon screams, she smiled. Oh, yes. This was much better.

Xavier didn't bother to apologize. She probably wouldn't hear it over the screams anyway. He had wondered how long it would take for Bellatrix to fall back on the Cruciatus. Her obsession with it was well known.

And he wasn't best pleased that McGavin's eyes were now fixed on Bellatrix, either. Scowling, he stepped forward, managing to grind McGavin's wand beneath his heel. The snap made him grin. Oh yes, that got his attention.

"You're unfit to run the Department, McGavin. Hate to tell you, but you're being sacked," he said, amused at his joke enough to chuckle. He crossed the space between him and McGavin, kicking aside a table. A cat darted from underneath the couch and his Avada Kedavra barely missed it as it streaked out the door. He needed to brush up on his aim, clearly.

With a kick, his fist connected with McGavin's jaw and he heard the pop as the jaw dislocated. "Ask me nicely to stop. and I'll put you out of your misery."

McGavin groaned something.

"What was that? I can't hear you. You've really got to speak up" Each word was punctuated by another blow until even his charm couldn't hold the man up. McGavin slumped to the floor.

He was laying hands on the Mudblood? He was physically beating it?

Oh, how dreadfully low brow.

Even her enjoyment in watching the Muggle's mind break was lessened by that vulgar display. Tiring of the mess, she ended one Unforgiveable and cast a second. With a gesture, the Imperio'd creature rose to her feet.

As Bella set the creature to dancing a ragged waltz, she said, "would his words even matter if he could find the ability to speak?"

Xavier pulled back, feeling quite a bit better even if his knuckles were bruised. Some indignities a man had to settle with his fists.

"No, not particularly, but it was amusing to see him try," he said, shrugging. He looked over at Bellatrix and flashed her a grin as he saw the wife. "Very nice touch with that, I think."

He nudged the man's head so it was facing his dancing wife. "Anytime you're ready, Mrs. Lestrange, I do believe you have an enraptured audience."

Bellatrix smiled like the schoolgirl she had one been and waited until the creature was in the midst of a pretty little turn.

"Avada Kedavra."

McGavin cried out and Xavier even let him reach out a hand to his dead wife as she fell to the floor.

Stepping back, he pointed his own wand and repeated the curse. The flash of green made him smile a little, though he wasn't usually one who really got off on the killing. Unlike some he could name. He didn't mind it, however, especially with putting down specific Mudbloods, like this.

The sudden silence was quite nice, even if the scent of death wafted up to his nose. Time to be going then. "It was lovely working with you, Bellatrix. As always, you're delightful to watch."

Bellatrix stretched up onto her toes, reaching for the sky as she did so. It was so nice to have a happy little outing. Perhaps now she could wait more graciously until it was time for her to move openly.

She nodded at Selwyn's compliments. They were only her due, after all. "Thank you. You're not bad yourself. A bit crude, but still amusing." Waving her wand to set her cloths aright again, she glanced over at him. "You'll do, I suppose. But now I must be getting back to my Lord's side. There are a few less successful of our members coming to report this evening and I must be ready to do my duty."

She smiled prettily. "Ta, Xavier." With that, she Apparated away.

Once she was gone, he rolled his eyes. Crude? Pot, kettle, but he only walked toward the door, affixing his mask again and pointing his wand to the sky. Inviting her had done its job, hopefully. The more he ingratiated himself with the Dark Lord's inner circle the more likely it would be he would become a part of it.

"Morsmordre," he said, watching as the green skull appeared over the house. It probably wasn't entirely necessary to leave a calling card anymore, but it would serve to keep the public in line for a few more of their changes down the line. Best they knew ahead of time to what end troublemakers came.

He Disapparated as he heard some sort of high pitched noise approaching. Probably one of those Muggle peace men. Good thing he wasn't an Obliviator or else he'd be in for a busy night.
