Bellamy grimaced as another rolling bout of thunder shook through the house. The walls practically vibrated and lightning flashed just before another crack crashed through the air. Yeah, he really hated Clarke's compassion sometimes. He understood it, sure, but as he peered through the window at the rain pouring down, he couldn't help but hate it. He fiddled with the zipper of his coat. They didn't have clothing warm enough for this. They didn't have the appropriate shoes. He didn't have gloves. Bellamy hadn't lived on Earth long, but he remembered enough from Earth Skills and he remembered enough from his own research in preparation to go to the ground with Octavia. But he didn't say anything, because he was sure Clarke knew, too. She had medical training, after all. He tried to remind himself that it wasn't as bad as back home. They could get Lexa, bring her back, and warm up. It wasn't like back on Earth at home where they didn't have this sort of electrical heating and hot water at the turn of a faucet. Nevertheless, he couldn't help but feel anxious - it was a fact he hid well, though.
This time he chose not to bring a gun, for better or for worse. He did bring a knife and a hatchet he bought with some of the money he had earned. Bellamy couldn't stomach the thought of not being armed. He waited by the door for Clarke and when she was ready, he flashed her a smile. "Hey, maybe this time, I won't shoot you," he joked, though it didn't roll off his tongue as easily as he would have liked. It was a scene that was added to the rotation of his bad dreams, but he rolled his eyes and he was sure the joke carried easily enough. "This is gonna suck," he prefaced before nodding and opening the door.
Bellamy stepped out into the cold first and it was like a punch in the chest. Cold here was unlike anything he was used to. And not only was it bitingly cold, but he was instantly drenched in the ice-cold, torrential rain. He swore under his breath, but didn't say anything else about it. He signed up for this, after all. Instead, he could cut a glance in Clarke's direction and decided to distract himself from his own cold by focusing on watching her to see if she was alright. The rain was bad enough, it was biting into his face and even blinking his eyes against it didn't keep the water from running down and blurring his vision. But the cold was the worst. It didn't take long before Bellamy couldn't feel his fingers.
Luckily, Lexa wasn't too far away from them. Back home, they traveled miles daily, so the distance wasn't that bad. It was the weather that had Bellamy feeling like dead weight by the time they got there. He stopped, looking over at Clarke, "You okay?" he shouted at her through the rain and over the thunder, forcing the syllables to sound smooth over the chattering of his teeth. The sooner they got Lexa, the sooner he could get home and start the process of trying to get warm.
