It's been a long couple of weeks.
Peter usually does his best not to focus on the negative things that happen, especially in this place, because it doesn't do any good. He knows they need to take any and all down time that they can and cling to it, because it doesn't happen that often. Things in Stepford are a lot crazier than they are back home -- by far. Back home, most of his time is spent stopping petty crime: muggings, thefts, an occasional car-jacking. Sure, big things happen back home, too, but the times he's run into those kinds of situations are few and far between.
Here it's like there's never long before one super villain announces their evil plan, the Avengers and Junior Avengers step in to stop them, and lock them up (he is absolutely trying his hardest not to think about how Steph and Lucky had ended up), and then the next super villain shows up. It's an exhausting cycle and he wonders how Mr. Stark and the others do this all the time.
It's not that he doesn't like being Spider-Man. He's known for the last couple years that as difficult as things have been sometimes, he's been given a gift and he wants to use it. Needs to use what he's been given to help other people. There's no other choice.
But sometimes, once in awhile, he misses just being a random teenager who does his homework, studies for tests and tries to pretend he's not the biggest loser in school.
The confrontation with the Evil Doppleganger Avengers has left him a bit more shaken than he's realized, apparently, because even that night as he's making his way home to Stark Tower from grabbing pizza, he notices that the hair on his arm is still standing up. It's been doing that a lot the last few days -- even at Disney.
It's unsettling and he takes a few slow, deep breaths, reminding himself that the good guys won, and that for now, at least, the threat has passed. But the unsettled feeling doesn't dissipate. If anything, it's more heightened than it had been before the confrontation.
"What the hell?" he murmurs, stopping at the crosswalk. He feels the hair on the back of his neck standing on end, too.
And when he catches a glimpse of the person suddenly standing beside him, it all clicks into place like a puzzle. His face drains of all color and he simply stares, wide-eyed.
"Hey, Pete," the man says with a small smile, tilting his head. "Long time no see."

[Hours later, locked safely in his room at Stark Tower, Peter looks rattled and he is. He's actually trying to hide how shaken he is, but his face is paler than usual.]
Everyone gets a second chance when they come here, right? That's a rule?
