Alex was very nervous. She hadn’t seen Sam in over a year, and she definitely was not the same girl he’d known. This place had changed her, in more ways than one. The most startling change was that she was no longer human. She’d been a vampire for over a year now, and that was still a struggle some days. She didn’t even know if it was a good idea to see him. But she couldn’t avoid him either. For some reason, he was here now and she couldn’t ignore it. She had no idea how he was going to take the news. He probably wouldn’t believe her. Caroline had even told her to compel him if she had to, but Alex did not want to do that. She didn’t want to make Sam be okay with something, if he wasn’t. She hadn’t really ever thought she’d see him again. So she had no idea how she was going to handle this, or how he would. She knew it wouldn’t be easy. Sam was logical, and where they were from…vampires were not logical. Nonetheless, she couldn’t change who she’d become. This was it. It was who she’d be from now until forever, perfectly preserved at 21 years old. She glanced at the clock, wondering when he’d be here. Maybe Sam was having trouble finding the place. It wasn’t like he was from here. But Sam was smart and resourceful. She didn’t think she’d need to go and meet him. Staying here gave her a few extra moments to think about what she might say. This wasn’t something she’d ever wanted, it had been an accident…but it was who she was now, and she hoped he could accept that. Once upon a time, she wouldn’t have even cared but that was long past now. Even if she hadn’t seen him in over a year, she’d never been able to forget him. |
