Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:character: ben proctor, character: corinna, location: the woods

The woods are where all the cool kids hang out
Who: Cori and Ben
Where: The woods
When: Monday midday

Corinna had been thinking about the things she had spoken to people about the new year for the past few days. James had told her to think back on the year and her accomplishments. She had spoken to Dana of new year's resolutions as well. They seem to be important to people, yet so many make jokes of how the resolutions won't be kept. Humans were strange, and apparently even dishonest to themselves.

She was wandering the woods with almost no clothes as usual. Due to the weather and her human form she had taken to wearing a gold hooded cloak while out now, but mostly she still liked not being in human clothes if she could manage it.

She had been running around for a few hours and had only stopped to snack on a sap covered twig. She wished she could eat more berries, but she was trying to do what John had told her and not eat berries. He thought that the spell may have caused an allergic reaction of some kind and that is why she transforms into a human. It's been over a month and she was still a human all through the daylight, so she was not having much faith in this thought anymore. Still, she had told him she would stop so she did.

She glanced over when she heard the sounds of someone approaching. She prepared to bolt off if it was someone dangerous, and when she saw the person she did consider it. It was the vampire who bit another student not long ago. She only stayed because she had been assured he would not do that again, so she would at least give him the chance. He was a human though. A vampire, but human still, so it was likely he would be dishonest. That was something that Cori had begun to feel lately. Some humans were fine, but many were deceptive and untrustworthy.

Either way, she waved in order to be friendly. Maybe that should be her resolution for the new year. Be friendly to humans even if they would likely not return the kindness.

"Hello," she replied. She then offered him some of her twig. "Would you like some?" She wasn't sure if humans liked that sort of thing or not, but if she was going to be nice it was the right thing to do.

She pulled the cloak around her body so that her skin wouldn't be seen. She was aware that some of the males had a hard time thinking while her body was unclothed, and she didn't want to have any issues with that. "They are not as tasty as berries, but John has told me not to eat berries for a while."

The vampire stopped at a comfortable talking distance from her and then looked down at the twig and back up at Cori's face. "No, no thank you," Ben smiled.

Thankfully, he wasn't as into girls as he was guys. "I wouldn't think they would be. Are the berries hurting you?"

She brought the twig back to her mouth and began to nibble on it again after he passed. "He believes it's possible that I was given an allergy that makes me human," she relayed, "But the sap is sweet in this one, so it is not too bad."

Her eyes glanced up towards the sky to see how long it would be before she would be able to roam as her true self again. "Do you explore the woods often?"

"Oh," Ben blinked and then sincerely nodded. He hadn't seen Cori in her natural form, but was sharp enough to understand.

The vampire followed her glance between looking back at her. "Not really. I come through when I'm going to or coming back from my job in Camden."

She began sucking on the twig so that she could better get the sap. It was a sweet syrup taste that she did enjoy. She just didn't enjoy it as much as blueberries or strawberries or really most any kind of berry she has tried.

"You work in town?" she tilted her head curiously, "Do you see the woman who speaks strangely?" She was referring to Mrs. Whatsit. She knew the woman worked in town and anytime that Corinna actually ventured to the town she would go by Mrs. Whatsit's store to visit for a bit.

At times, Ben missed how satisfying food and drink tasted. He could only imagine that tree sap was sweet.

"Yes, I do," the vampire nodded. "No, no I don't," Ben continued, knowing who Cori was referring. He hadn't visited that store since the last time he went apologizing to Leon.

"I like her," Cori mused as she sucked on the tip of the stick, "She is kind. I gave her a statue for Christmas." She leaned back against the tree stretching a bit as she prepared her body to rise and continue roaming the forest.

"Do you like to run?" she asked the vampire boy as she was not completely sure what kind of things vampires liked.

The vampire nodded, not having spoken to the woman at all. Too bad. But as were things.

"Yeah," Ben grinned softly. "I do." It was much more fun to run being a vampire - swift, fast, and not likely to tire quickly.

"Would you like to race?" Cori asked with a slight head tilt. She had never raced a vampire in her human form. She knew she was faster than most humans, but she was a bit curious to see how she would fair. She had the feeling she may be slower, but she had hopes that perhaps her ability to navigate the obstacles without losing speed would help. Also, it would simply be fun.

"Sure," Ben replied as his grin turned to a smile. This is what normal people did - no drama or complications. He needed this and was thankful to perhaps be making a friend. So, a run. He hadn't gone a run in the woods before. So there was fun to be had.

"There is a well in that direction," she pointed towards the west, "We will race towards that." She then put her finger to her chin and began to consider something. Vampires are basically human simply altered. "Humans do better when there is a wager," she considered this for a moment, "What do you believe we could wager with?"

"Okay," Ben nodded as he looked to where she pointed. Shifting his weight from one foot to the other, he listened and watched her. A wager? That was too open-ended. "I don't know. Perhaps just the thrill of running?"

"That is what I enjoy," she smiled, "But you must promise to try your hardest." She then readied herself for the race. "Are you ready?" She asked looking over at the vampire human. She was quite curious about vampire speed. There were some who even thought they could catch her in her true form. They were wrong of course, but she still found it curious.

The dimples in Ben's cheeks deepened as he smiled. "I will try my hardest." Turning toward the direction of the well, the vampire nodded. "Let's go." Ben bent his knees slightly, ready to run and possibly outrun Cori.

Cori took off at full speed. She was faster than the typical human, but more like an Olympic athlete. The thing that truly gave her an edge was her ability to not slow down simply because of something in her way. She would flip over branches in her way, or sometimes even slide underneath them. At one point in time she even swung on one high branch to land and spring off a lower branch as she ran.

She was nearly there when she saw something blur past her.

Ben often didn't make use of his speed and swiftness. It happened a lot since he wished he was still human. His brooding was the main culprit. But now he was off running, not holding back as he leaped over obstacles, liking how the air felt as it hit his face.

Then the vampire passed Cori, seeing the light color of her hair and feeling like time had slowed. Then he faced forward and within moments, he was screeching to a halt by the well.

Cori got to the well only a few seconds after Ben despite not having the enhanced speed. She was still somewhat disappointed, but at least now she knew what vampire speed was like. It was nothing compared to her true speed, but it was definitely impressive. "You are very fast," she complimented, "You also smiled. I do not see you smile much."

Turning to face Cori, Ben continued to smile. It was the most straight forward of things that eased his mind. "Thank you. You too," he returned the compliment. His smile faded to a grin, but it was still there. "Maybe focusing on just running makes everything else go away for a while."

"Maybe you should run more then," she suggested, "If it helps you smile." She wasn't quite sure if it was something that could really help or not, but since he seemed to frown a lot at school then smile when running, it made sense.

She walked to a nearby tree, searching for one with the most sap, "I find I do not like being around the humans much lately, but you seem nice." She plucked a new twig off and began sucking on the tip while nibbling a little. "Are you?"
