thread : Speed Dating
Who: Open to All
Where: St. Margaret's, the ballroom
When: Wednesday, February 11th, 6:30-8:30pm
NPCs: various student participants
Student vollunteers had spent the last two days decorating and preparing the ballroom for the speed dating event. The ballroom itself was an elegant space, a nice venue for this sort of thing. Tables had been set up, thirty of them, just enough for everyone who signed up plus a few extras in case of eleventh hour participants. The tables were small and round, two chairs set at each one. They were covered with white linen tablecloths, and each one had a centerpiece of flowers and a small lit candle as well as a small selection of snacks and desserts and water to drink. There was a seperate larger table set up against one wall, also stocked with a variety of snack food, desserts, and drinks, all ordered from businesses in town.
Another long table was displaying all of the raffle prizes that were up for grabs. Each speed dater had been given a ticket upon arriving, and had the option to buy more. The prizes were date-related, and also were mostly from businesses in Camden. There was a pair of passes for the stables, to enjoy a horseback ride on the beach, likely to be used when winter was over. A dinner for two at Montrose was up for grabs, as was a gift certificate presumably for a dinner at Camden Crossings, though when getting that gift certificate Adrian had cleverly not specified what it was for, in case anyone did want to take a chance at sneaking away for an overnight at the seaside mansion hotel. A gift certificate for the movie theater in town was also available. And for those wanting to stay in, there were a couple of movie gift baskets including dvd's, popcorn and snacks. One gift basket was rom coms, another fantasy / sci fi. A standard year boy from student council was selling the raffle tickets, for anyone who wanted a few extra chances to win something.
The vollunteers had finished setting up and had just a few minutes to rest and have a quick sample of the food and drinks before the speed daters started to arrive. The six thirty start time had given students enough time for dinner and some quick preparation if they needed or wanted. As the participants arrived, they were each given a number and a card on which to record which dates they wouldn't mind seeing again. They then were able to check out the food and raffles until everyone had arrived. About fifteen minutes later, everyone was there and Adrian rang a bell to get everyone's attention.
The fae's face was a little flushed as he spoke to the group, not a big fan of public speaking. He thanked everyone for coming, then began to explain how the evening would work. Everyone would be assigned a table to start at, then every five minutes when Adrian rang the bell, one participant would move to the next table over. The changes would go smoothly for most of the night, and Adrian would only have to change the order once or twice. He kept his talk brief, then had the other student council vollunteers begin to seat people at the tables for their first date. Adrian moved over to the sound system, starting up the soundtrack for the evening, an eclectic mix of tunes. Once he saw everyone seated, he rang the bell in his hand, signalling for the first dates to begin.
