It had been quite a while, too long really, since Adrian and Bushara had gotten to spend time together. In Adrian's mind, that had been entirely his fault. He'd come back from Mexico changed, and he wasn't sure now if it had been for the better. He'd loved being among his people, being immersed in faerie culture for an entire month, but he'd returned feeling like a stranger in a strange land, unsure of all he'd known before. His people were very xenophobic, disliking humans in particular, but in general not wanting to deal much with anyone not of their kind. Adrian had felt a little conflicted about returning to St. Margaret's, so he'd dealt with that by withdrawing into himself some and focusing on applying what he'd learned in Mexico and trying to use his faerie magic in new ways in the school gardens and in the forest. If he hadn't been so focused on himself, he might have avoided what had come next, at least that was what he'd told himself.
The abduction and the ordeal in the mines had effected Adrian considerably, perhaps more than the others. They'd been caged in with iron, iron had been practically all around them for the entire time, and it had left Adrian feeling very sick and very weak for quite a while afterward. Mentally, he wasn't the same either. Adrian couldn't help wondering if his kin were right, if humans could not be trusted. Since returning to St. Margaret's, Adrian hadn't been able to help withdrawing again, especially keeping a distance from the witches, even though he'd been on friendly terms with some of them before.
Finally, he'd reached out a little bit on Halloween, his first attempt to be social again. He'd tried a bit more since then, skating with Ollie before the weather got too cold, reconnecting with some of his other friends. When Adrian did reach out to Bushara, he realized it really had been too long, and he felt bad for that. He hadn't bee the only one to go through that awful imprisonment, how could he have not checked in on her before now. Adrian had decided to remedy that and give them an entire day with which to reaquaint themselves with one another.
He'd originally been thinking it would be nice to spend much of the day outside, maybe have a picnic or visit the stables, but the weather outside was cold, quite cold, the promise of winter coming strongly felt in the air and on the winds. By the time they'd walked into town, Adrian was ready to warm up some. He knew of the perfect place and walked through the small town with her toward it, huddled close together, holding her hand as they went. Adrian felt a comfort level with Bushara. Though there had been time and some trauma since the last time they'd spent some quality time together, Adrian felt like he was picking up where they'd left off mid-summer, which had been a pretty good place. He had changed since then, and probably so had she, but Adrian could feel that didn't change how he felt about her.
He wasn't completely without conversation as they walked, complimenting her looks when they first met up, talking a little about some superficial things as they walked, school stuff, mostly. He did enjoy the silences too. They were comfortable silences, at least Adrian thought that they were. It wasn't long before they were finally able to venture back indoors as they approached the stately Camden Crossings, a beachside manor turned fancy hotel. Adrian's cheeks gained a bit more color and he felt compelled to explain, "I hear their menu's really good, one of the best in town. And the view's really nice too. Thought it'd be nice to eat and just... relax some."
