Codename: Cthulhu

Body Modification

Gabriel can change and modify his body, enhancing his physical capabilities. He doesn't have the ability to completely change into a different man--or woman--or to change to an animal form, but he can change his own appearance to a degree. He can thread silver into his dark hair, can trace lines in his forehead and at the corners of his eyes, can bend his spine with supposed age. Conversely, he can appear as a young man in his late teens. He cannot change his mass; he can't make himself taller or shorter, thinner or fatter.

The form that he considers his true form is a terrifying combination of man and nightmare. From the base of his neck to his waist, Gabriel has four sets of tentacles ranging from small and fine to the last set, nearly as thick as his arms. They are retractable, disappearing into his body via openings on either side of his spine. When they are fully retracted, Gabriel's back looks normal save for what appears to be slanted, parallel scars on either side of his spine, each about three inches long--the bottom set are nearly twice that length--and slightly raised. These "scars" are actually openings for the tentacles housed within him. The tentacles are of varying length as well; the smallest upper pair nearly are two feet long in extension, graduating to the lowest pair, which are a bit more than six feet (each tentacle) fully stretched. All are the same color, an iridescent black-green, and are sucker-less, soft and warm, sensitive to touch. They are all prehensile and obedient to Gabriel's will. As Gabriel is lean, he has no idea how everything fits inside him without showing outwardly as lumps or bulges; he says he's a Tardis in the flesh.

Strength: Gabriel is very strong; he's learned well how to hide it, appear as any other man. His tentacles, particularly the biggest, can pick up and throw cars, rip doors out of buildings, pull someone or something limb from limb--the amount of sheer damage he can inflict is startling.

Aquatic Adaptation

Gabriel is able to survive and adapt to underwater environments, being able to breathe water in lieu of, or along with, a gaseous breathing medium, to swim well and to endure high water pressure and extreme water temperatures. He is able to use his senses to perceive normally regardless of the distortion/pressure of the water, including ignoring various impurities that would otherwise reduce the visibility.

Speed: Even in human form, he's quicker, faster than a man. In his water form, he's sleek, sinuous, flexible, almost as if he's boneless, and quicker than even the fastest creature in the ocean. He can't fold time and space to travel somewhere instantaneously, but he'll get where he needs to be faster than anyone would think possible.

Water, come to me: Gabriel can call the water (think Arwen, in LoTRs) to him. He can't command huge bodies, like whipping stretches of the ocean into a massive storm, but rivers and lakes respond to his call. He can't call storms, but can form waterspouts and small localized disturbances, like rain.

Gabriel has been with the program since the age of fifteen, when his powers manifested; he's a veteran of the Corps and has seen many come and go.

I'll expand on his powers and weaknesses in his bio.

I have two muses who would adore him for his tentacles. Reaper here would love to dissect analyze them, though she would try her best to keep that desire to herself, and the other one just thinks they're creepy cool, but I haven't intro'd her yet. Reaper and Ctulhu are on the same team! She's been there for five or more years now, so I imagine they would know each other.

Excellent! The Corps might look on his...extras...a little more leniently than the general public, given they're all different in various ways. He's just a little more obvious in it.

Gabriel was taken into custody when he was fifteen, and he's thirty-four, so he's out-lasted many teammates. He's comfortable with who he is now, and he's fairly friendly, at least on the surface. Reaper might make others a little nervous, but Gabriel definitely would.

Helena would be very encouraging that he should embrace his differences, because they make him unique, and that's a beautiful thing. But since her powers tend toward the freaky side, she's a little biased. Friendship would be awesome, though, if that would work?

Friendship would definitely work. In her early years he might've flirted with the intent to lure her to bed, because she's a beautiful woman. However, if she said no, that would've been the end of it, and he would have been friendly. And he still might flirt a bit, but nothing serious, because Who would go after him with knives and that would just be messy.

I'm playing with her timeline a bit still, but that sounds good to me! He might even have succeeded with her at some point, depending on how charming he is. Definitely watch out for her current beau, though, absolutely~

I have another muse I'll be bringing in at some point who'd probably turn the table and hit on him, tentacles and all. Especially because of the tentacles. But she's a little unstable, so don't mind her...

Former flings, then?

Avril Lavigne face, electrokinesis and possibly another power (I have yet to decide), codename Livewire. She's unstable, as mentioned, with her moods shifting at a sometimes dizzying pace. Also sometimes easily manipulated, to her chagrin. Loves attention and acts out to get it, and I'm sure has spent plenty of time in the Graveyard. Interested in some weird and usually violent stuff. Inappropriate. But for her misbehavior, she does do very well on missions almost all of the time. I'm not sure what team she would be on.

I'd think he'd be a terrifying sight, so it seemed appropriate. I thought of Shiva, first, but given his underwater powers, Cthulhu seemed better.

I mean, if you're not prepared for all those tentacles, it would probably be shocking. Cthulhu is kind of perfect, what with all the water business and tentacles rather than arms.

I think I have! I'm leaning toward wings, blood manipulation, and dermal armor, which are basically specific manifestations of genetic manipulation.

Feathery! So he gets the nice juxtaposition of mildly angelic wings + blood fueled abilities.

I haven't hammered out the exact details yet, but he can absorb/ingest blood for healing purposes and manipulate it physically in a way that's similar to things like hydro and cryokinesis - which potentially includes actually being able to draw it from someone's body?

Omg, you guys make Foxtrot look so tempting! Sigh.

BUT at least Elia has reasons to know him, since she used to be a Foxtrot girl. She would be completely enthralled by Gabriel and his awesome half-nightmare form... to her, he'd look like a life-size half-darkling, and she would want to be friends. She's a little on the... 'eccentric' side, as she's being written. But harmless in the way that she would just find him extremely, extremely interesting and intriguing.

I think he was sorted early into Foxtrot and stayed, because he doesn't really fit into any specific category, though he's useful to have around because he can do so many different things.

Her little critters would fascinate him, as would she herself. So the interest would go both ways. They're both odd. :)

I don't have a heck of a lot to offer because they're on different teams, but the tentacles are bad ass. Backlash has been in the system for about a decade, so maybe we can say they've worked some missions together in the past and have bonded that way? With his self-directed reactive adaptation ability (Backlash takes kinetic energy directed at him and uses it to change features about himself), it's possible they could have done some kind of underwater mission together -- or maybe they can do one in the future!

As a Foxtrot, Gabriel would've been on loan to nearly any team, as I understand it, so given the length of time they've both been in the Corps, they've undoubtedly worked together in some fashion.

I'd like to do some sort of underwater mission! Water is his element, so he's more comfortable there than anywhere else.

When you say Backlash changes features about himself, is it physical or can he pick up other powers?

It's entirely possible that Who is going to start lurking around Cthulhu and discretely spend time studying his habits... The Reaper's wish is Who's command, and he would love to bring her a tentacle to dissect.

With that possibly creepy paragraph just written, in no way does that ever actually have to happen. Especially because I imagine it would get Who sent down to the Graveyard for an indeterminate amount of time. But, it may be a good opportunity for future interactions between Who and Cthulhu, especially after Cthulhu figures out why Who has been spending so much time poking around him...

BTW typing Cthulhu is like a joke with a really confusing punchline. Too many u's, broken brain.

Who might find it difficult to get a chunk of him, because Gabriel would be fairly opposed to the whole idea. He likes Reaper, but he likes being whole more.

In Reaper's earlier days, Gabriel flirted with her and still might on occasion, but he'd not be serious about it. Particularly since Who has expressed an interest.

Yeah, Shiva was a lot easier, but given his aquatic powers, Chthulhu was too good to resist!

Absolutely understandable. In fact, more understandable than Who's dogged determination and increasingly creepy comments about calamari... I've been hoping someone would bring in a character who has had or does have romantic interest in Reaper, because Who is at his creepiest wherever she is concerned. Gabriel may find the occasional paper with weird haikus and other poetry stuck to his door with a knife, especially if he gets too flirty with Reaper in front of him. Maybe the occasional dead rat (etc) left somewhere personal... Everybody loves presents?

I love it, I won't try to lie to you.

This appeals greatly to me, so it obviously must be! I think that Gabriel and Reaper had a fling in her early years there, but that's obviously in the past, though he still flirts with her a bit. Possibly if Gabriel is feeling the need to spice things up a bit, he might even do so in front of Who--the equivalent of pulling his pigtails.

They need to do some physical training together--heavily supervised, of course.

I'll be bringing in her handler. She's originally from Ireland, recruited in from the special operations force of the Irish Defense Forces known as The Army Ranger Wing (ARW). Her first year with Ghost was as a Damage Control Specialist, before she was promoted to Handler. She expects the best from those she handles. It is a non-negotiable in her frame of mind. She can be demanding, critical and unrelenting where team Foxtrot is concerned.

Gabriel's been with Foxtrot since he was twenty, so that's fourteen years. He works well with others; he doesn't mind being loaned out to other teams when necessary in whatever role they need. He's never left anyone behind, having defied orders before, so she can make of that as she wants.

Now that I've been able to process everything, holy crap he's like an amazing combination of Abe and Sammael (the demon that they fought) in Hellboy and I love it.

I realized (had to re-read because I clearly failed at comprehension as a child) that Gabe was a vet like Marcus. I read from his bio that he came into the Poltergeist program when he was fifteen? I think it said 1992? Marcus got sent to the corps in 1995 from the same program. He was incarcerated at the age of 12 (1989); so, he was pretty much part of the first crop. They can be old vets together. Marcus tends to be tight lipped back with someone that's been around and familiar, I'm sure he'd be more chatty. They can be crabby old men together. Or Marcus can be the crabby old man and Gabe can just be amused. Whichever. I'm not picky.

Gabriel was turned in by his adoptive family when he was fifteen and manifested his powers (there was a lot of collateral damage that day). So he and Marcus are probably the old vets, given they've spent most of their lives in the Corps. He's learned not to form deep attachments, as people do get killed, but as Marcus is pretty much damage-proof, he's become attached to him. Gabriel is probably the amused one; in spite of everything, or possibly because of it, he's maintained his sense of humor, which is admittedly pretty macabre. He appreciates Marcus' sense of fine clothes and it's probably influenced him to some degree.
