He thanked Marta for the coffee before swigging down half the mug, praying that it'd keep him more alert than he had been. The darkness wasn't safe for anyone, especially with those animals out there, preying on the idiots who went outside. "Sorry, hun. You know my body's too fine tuned to sleep when there's a problem to be solved." He grinned almost manically and stole some of the bread from Jake's hands, tearing off a hunk before handing it back. "Doors are dead, no getting them to open up on us but I can generate electricity and store it in battery form. I've been charging as many as I can get and handing some out to the neighbours when I can get it to them."
He stared at his hand. How had he hurt it again? "Oh right. Tried to make a battery, got a chemical burn. Dumb shit idea, admittedly but I was desperate at the time. And sure, send the kid around if he can get here without getting eaten by a lion."
