Tate had been hanging around the wishing well a lot lately, ever since he'd realised that the wishes really were working. Some of them, anyway. He'd seen enough on the network to realise that, if he made a wish, all his troubles could be over. Then again, wouldn't it be wrong? He wanted Violet to forgive him. He wanted everything to go back to the way it had been between them before she'd found out about his indiscretions. He missed her. Despite their truce, she'd been distant with him and he'd found himself running out of reasons to force his company on her. Of course, he'd been hanging around her as much as possible, making sure she was safe, but that wasn't the same as actually spending time with her.
But could he really make a wish and change everything? Would she want that? She had said that what she had wanted was him... Maybe she wouldn't be angry with him if he just made a little wish to make things better between them.
Finally, he couldn't resist any longer. Walking up to the well, turning a coin between his fingers, he stopped at the side before looking down into its depths. The sides looked as though they were made out of lots of different shades of melted metal. He thought it was probably made up of all the coins people had thrown in but he wasn't sure.
Taking a deep breath, he tossed his coin in before closing his eyes and thinking, hard, I wish things with Violet could be like they used to be, before she found out.... After a minute, he slowly opened his eyes. Had it worked? He'd been vague. Maybe he'd been too vague. Maybe he should try again... Tomorrow. He'd try again tomorrow. He'd know by then if it had worked.
After one long last look down the well, he turned and walked away back towards the apartment buildings. He could just check on Violet. Even if nothing had changed, he could still check on her. He hadn't spoken to her for ages. Surely she wouldn't mind him checking on her.
