Gretel seemed somewhat proud of herself for having produced that little flash of goosebumps- for all she knew of him, he wasn't supposed to get shivers. Her eyes immediately flicked to his perfectly angular, hairless face when his arm slid away. He looked surprised... surprised the way she looked surprised at him the first time. Once the fear was gone.
"Before I came here, I would've argued that there is no 'strange' way of having parents. Either you have them, or used to have them..." Something in her voice hinted of deeper levels to those words of hers, but Gretel went on, veering subjects sharply.
"You're just as out of place here as I am," she observed. "But at least I'm at home in my own skin. You act like you just moved into yours."
