Who: Rory and Claire Novak
Where: The city
What: Rory finds a new arrival
When: Friday evening
Rating: TBD
Open: To Isabel and Dean
Status: Ongoing
Rory needed to take a walk. He thought that moving into his own place was a good idea but it was quiet and he hated that. He was actually contemplating asking if he could go back home, but he needed to think about it. To really think about it. And that required some walking.

He left the apartment building and turned right, then just started walking. He wasn't paying attention to where he was going, just used his senses to keep him from running into things. He let his mind drift as he thought about everything. About why he moved out in the first place, all of it. He just needed time to think.

Isabel came out of the kitchen with a plate carrying two pieces of cherry pie and a large scoop of vanilla ice cream. She set that down on the table along with another cup of coffee and gave Dean a small smile. "There you go."

Rory took a seat, saying nothing for the time being. He'd speak up if he was needed but he wasn't going to leave.

Isabel took one last look around the table, deciding everyone had what they needed before heading back into the kitchen to give them some privacy.

"That kid?"

With eyebrows arched high over large blue eyes- the same color as Rory's- Claire twitched a nod at the angel/demon bastard. Not that she had anything particularly against him, save for having the bad misfortune to be the first one to stumble across her. And negate almost everything she knew to be true- simply by existing.

Dean was the only thing here she understood as real so far, and here he was... almost her goddamn age. And from what she could tell, Rory's age, too. Saying he'd been raised by the Winchester brothers made no fucking sense. That's why she was calling it into question.

"Maybe you can tell me what the hell is going on here in a way that doesn't make me think I took a header down a really long set of stairs... but forgive me if I'm skeptical."

"Pie! More pie!" He called out to Isabel as she disappeared back into the kitchen. He was sure one piece wasn't going to get him through this remeeting. He almost didn't want her to leave. She would be some barrier between him and the girl that seemed so much more grumpy than the last time he'd seen her.

Dean sat in the seat Is had placed the piece of pie in front of. Eyeing Claire as he did. "Maybe not that kid, but me and Sam raised him in some future back home." So that made Rory his, enough in his eyes. He'd keep Mary Ellen to himself for now. She obviously had some chip on her shoulder, and he'd be damned if he gave that kind of information to someone that could hurt him in an unimaginable way if she had the urge.

"What did he tell you?"

Isabel sighed and brought out the rest of the pie, setting it on the table.

"You're gonna get fat if you keep this up, sugar." She shook her head, pausing long enough to squeeze Dean's shoulder.

Rory chuckled but still kept quiet.

A long sigh made Claire's nostrils flare like an angry bull. She closed her eyes for a moment, then reopened then in hopes that maybe it might help make things clearer. It didn't. Dean was still scowling in front of her, like a personality mirror reflecting her own confusion, with a distinct note of plain distrust that was not there the last time she saw him- he looked like he didn't even recognize her...

And of course Rory was still there, existing.

"Before we go into what he told me-" which was, she suspected, some kind of truth. As fucked up as it was, she knew when things were lying, which is probably why she was having such a hard time. "-let's pretend that up until about an hour ago, I was from a reality where phrases like 'I raised my friend's future angel-demon hybrid kid in the future but he's here now' don't make any damn sense... okay?" There. Her perspective laid out loud and clear, hopefully.

"Not to mention the fact that said hybrid is apparently my half-sibling- that after more than ten years of serious psychological shit I was working out through killing things- I never knew about. Who happens to find right after I'm sucked into a different dimension!"

Damn right she was grumpy. Claire practically stabbed her pie.

Dean took a moment to be a little bit of a pig. He knew he was being one, leaning back in his seat as Isabel walked away. Better to look at her ass than Claire's tits, right? "Not if you help me work it off I wont." He called back to her. Teasing. Mostly.

Her tirade didn't go unnoticed. But once he had a bite of pie, he was a little calmed. Isabel's pie had that effect. "Last time I saw you... Was when a bunch of jackasses were trying to use you and your Mom against Cas." And that was the gist of it. She knew what happened. Rory probably did too, there was no point in rehashing.

"So don't take shit out on him, he didn't bring you here." He didn't care what she said to him, but his kids were off limits. "What I have with him doesn't have to make sense to you. It makes sense to me. And I don't have to answer to anyone about it." He pointed his finger at Rory. To be sure that there was no other 'him' that she wouldn't be confused with anyone else.

Isabel wasn't the only one who noticed that look, or the comment that went with it. Claire's head listed toward one shoulder, her expression deadpan and more than a little judgmental. Not about being a pig, but for being a pig when they were in the middle of a fairly important fucking conversation.

"Well that explains a few things- considering the last time I saw you was my eighteenth birthday, right after we buried my mother," she started right back in on him without missing a beat. Dean Winchester could be intimidating as fuck- she'd seen powerful things run from his name alone. But Claire was angry, confused, and felt strangely betrayed. "I got this as a present- after skewering the bastard that fed on her for two years then killed her." Fast as any well versed with the weapon, Claire unsheathed the angel sword- not the shorter, gladius-like angel blade, but the blade wielded by archangels themselves- and buried it's tip in the floor between her and Dean's feet. She let the handle go and pointed right back at him.

"And I didn't say shit about him, besides the truth as it is to me- and since you're the only person I thought I knew here, the quicker I deal with it, the quicker you can get past it. So work with me, and help me understand this shit, because I'm not fucking going anywhere."

She huffed, sitting back in her chair with her hands clenched on her thighs.

Dean's tough guy facade melted just a little bit. "I'm sorry Claire." He hadn't known. He figured she turned hunter to hunt Cas. What was that saying about assumptions? "But I don't know anything about that. I've been here for right around three years, and..." He shook his head. He grabbed the hilt of the sword and yanked it out of the floor. Intent on keeping it. Because it was a threat to the boy that sat at the table with them, and another he felt partially responsible for. And god knew who else.

"And him has a name. It's Aruraliel. Or Rory if that's too hard." With a puff of his cheeks he nodded. "Besides that, I'm not sure I can help you deal with whatever you're trying to deal with. We all got to accept this on our own time, or you don't accept it. And you go fucking insane." It was the blunt way to put it, but there it was.

He may have been intent on keeping that sword, but Claire had a different idea- one fueled by the knee-jerk reaction of someone about to have their livelihood ripped away. And of someone who had trained herself on that livelihood hours a day, every day for nearly a decade. He'd barely pulled it free when Claire's hands snapped out, one cinching his wrist with an awkward (and painful) jolt forward while the other twisted the blade into the blow and away from his grip. In all of half a second, she'd stood up and disarmed Dean, and glaring a wild-eyed warning at him to not touch her shit again. Claire sheathed the weapon to it's hilt on her hip.

Only then did a little of the metal in her shoulders loosen, and the barbed wire in her eyes unwind. She was still a dangerous sort of calm, but it was just as much hurt as it was anger, and she was thoroughly done with this dead end where she'd hoped there would be support.

Instead, she'd found more suspicion, and abandonment.

"Got it. Loud and fuckin' clear," she said lowly, something hard and painful twisting in her gut started for the diner door. "Thanks for the help."

Isabel hadn't intended on eaves dropping, but the point was that she had been. She was ready to react when the girl grabbed Dean, but figured he'd want to handle that. When Claire started walking toward the door, though, that set her to action. She came around the counter and waved her hand. The doors shut tightly with a thud and there was the obvious sound of the lock clicking.

"You might want to sit back down, sugar." She then crossed her arms.

Dean had been pretty shocked with the moves she used to get the sword back. But he wasn't going to let her keep it. Even if she did walk away he was going to be damn sure she didn't keep that sword. No one was safe while she had it. He stood up from his seat, pushing it back slowly. A slow smirk crossing his lips as Isabel worked her magic.

"I'd listen to the lady. Because you're not walking out of here with that. There is one thing you will have absolutely clear, before you do walk out of here. I'm part of the security team. And that means making sure everybody is safe and sound. If that means from you, then so be it." He wasn't sure if the blade could hurt Isabel. But he wasn't going to take that chance. He walked around the table, and leaned against it, not enough to move it. "The question is: Do you give me that sword or do I take it away from you?" If this were earth. If this were home, he'd let her keep it. But it wasn't. And he owed his life to a few people on the island. And he had a whole hell of a lot to lose if she went batshit.

And just like that, Claire went from angry and hurt, to angry and hurt, and cornered. The doors closing on their own, the pie-lady being some kind of telekinetic... hell, at this point she'd guess demon or angel too. Claire no longer gave a shit. Her eyes were burning from the inside, the long-ago banished feeling of tears building pressure behind her sinuses, but she wouldn't let it out. It stayed buried, like everything else. She hadn't even cried when Alex died.

The last time Claire cried, it was over her mother's body.

"You've gotta be goddamn kidding me-" She folded her arms, shifting tensely near the doors and turned slowly to face the rest of them. Dean in particular, who she pegged with a stare that shared every drop of her pain, especially as it welled up in her voice in a growly crescendo. "You. Gave me this sword-!" Her voice echoed in the diner.

"I don't give a shit if you don't remember- I do. It's all I have left of everything I was. I don't wanna use it- not on Rory, not on anyone- and especially not you. But you of all people should understand the meaning of 'nothing left to lose', right Dean?"

Translation: that sword would only leave her hand if it was cold and dead, and chances were, people would get hurt in the process. Her words were pointed, and though they were steeped in pain, they were absolutely, irrefutably honest. "I just wanna leave. I'll go find my own damn spot in this shithole, far away from any of you."

"Can we all just stop?" Rory got up and stood between Dean and Claire. He looked over at Isabel who nodded and the lock clicked on the doors again.

"Claire, please. Can we talk? Everything is going a little crazy right now and it's all getting off on the wrong foot. Is there any way that we could try to just talk about this? Please?" He just wanted things to calm down.

"You of all people should understand why I have to take it from you. Why I can't let you keep it. Not until you're settled down and not behaving like an escaped mental patient. I had a nothing left to lose mentality, but I don't have one anymore. Not here." It was his turn to turn hard eyes on her. "I've got a whole hell of a lot I can lose here, and I'll be damned if I let a little spoiled brat take any of it away from me." He'd watched his mother die too, too many times. And watched his Dad get dragged back down to hell. He'd lost Sam countless times in this place.

"I'll give it back to you when you need it. Or when you've stopped acting like you need a padded room and new jacket with a few leather straps on it." He pushed himself away from the table. "Now I'm going to ask you again, but it's going to be the last time I do. Do you give it to me, or do I take it away from you?" His voice was as hard as flint and as cold as the arctic. He wasn't going to argue with her. He wasn't going to trust her with something that deadly either.

She was seething now, having pushed one of the diner doors open and put her body weight on it, just in case they decided to lock her in again. "I'm sorry- did I not just get sucked through a portal to an alternate reality?" Claire bitched right back at Dean over Rory's shoulder. "Did I make that part up? Because if so, yeah, you can call me an escaped mental patient. Otherwise fuck the hell off!"

"Did I go on a fucking rampage somewhere? Did I threaten anybody? No. I came to you for help, asshole- then you treat me like a goddamn criminal. Fuck you." Before sending Rory a complicated, but clearly tormented look, she pushed the rest of the way through the diner door, headed outside the diner.

Rory closed his eyes and sighed heavily. He just stood there for a minute before looking at Dean. "I know you're just trying to keep us safe and I appreciate that very much, but Claire just got here. She's rattled and confused and now she's mad on top of it. I love you, Dad, but sometimes you say the wrong thing." There was no anger in his tone at all, just exhaustion. He turned and walked out the door. "Claire, wait. "

If Rory hadn't been standing between them Dean would have gone after her. He was practically growling. She should know better. When did those things threaten to do something bad before they did it? He was damn sure when whatever it was that killed her mother didn't announce that he was going to do it first. She wasn't exempt. He didn't know her.

"I want that sword!" He called after Rory. He didn't even want it for himself. It was something he was going to lockup.

Dean resisted the urge to turn over a few tables. Do some damage. If the place hadn't been a thing of love to the people who made it what it was, he would have. "Sorry Iz. I'm suddenly not so hungry." He grumbled, and hit the door.

"Dean, wait." Isabel could tell by his body language, and by the conversation, exactly what was going on.

"I'm a genie, Dean. It'll take me two seconds to clean this place up." She offered. Better than him breaking a person for sure.

"And have you and Maryanne pissed off at me? No thanks. I'll catch you later." He gave her a wink. After all she had helped him at first. Even if it hadn't stuck.

Pushing the door open he headed off in the opposite direction that Claire had gone. He had no intention on running into her any time soon.

Claire wasn't eve sure where she was going. Actually, she had no idea where she was going- so long as it was away from here. She wasn't running, but her boots sure as hell were moving down the sidewalk, not pausing or even slowing when she heard Rory's voice behind her. She didn't look back, either. Her eyes were still swimming, and she had to get that under control.

"You don't want anything to do with me, Rory-" she said sharply over her shoulder, the rush out the door having jarred one sleeve of her sweater down her arm. Beneath it, peeking out from the spaghetti thin strap of her tank top, was the top of a large wing tattoo that spanned nearly every inch of peach and freckled skin exposed. "Trust me on that."

Rory stopped and just looked at her for a minute. He tried to gather his thoughts. "If you don't want me to be in your life, that's fine. I get that. But just tell me that. Don't give me the "you don't want anything to do with me" bullshit. I've heard it plenty of times from people that ended up being pretty awesome people. Unless you're planning to use that sword to kill me, I think I can make a decision on who I do and don't want to associate with."

Claire stopped, her hands dropped at her sides like live wires cut from the poles, aimless and dangerous. Her head dropped back as she let out a long growl of frustration, before spinning to face him.

"Look- I appreciate what you're trying to do- I get it." At least, she thought she did. The whole 'I wanna know this sister I never knew about!' mentality was completely opposite of her own character, but she understood that his intentions were benign, at the very least. But that didn't change the fact that she didn't know him from Adam, or more importantly, Claire's entire life had just been turned upside down and shook hard. She was completely overwhelmed.

Her words tripped her up, and she couldn't articulate anything. Her hands went up, palms facing him in a combination 'not aggressive' and 'back off' posture, as she started walking backwards.

"I don't know what the fuck I want. I don't even know where the fuck I am or what the fuck I'm doing... just ..leave me alone."

"I'll leave you alone, for now. Give you time to process, that kind of thing." He nodded. Rory backed off a couple of steps but he kept facing her. "But I'm not going to just pretend you're not here. If you need anything. To talk, a place to crash, whatever. You can find me on the contact list."

Claire barely managed to gesture coherently, a noncommittal, frustrated sweeping expression that showed she heard him, even if she wouldn't actually be able to process the meaning of what he'd said until later, when she'd calmed down.

At the moment, she didn't know where she was going, just getting lost in this endless, empty city again. Alone again. Abandoned, again.
