What: Conversations in closeish quarters
Where: Cambridge, Mass
When: Wednesday night
Status: Ongoing/open later on if you're there
It was sheer chance really, that Mouse started to grizzle and fuss as Peggy was fetching a glass of water. Normally, Peggy could sleep like a log anywhere and everywhere (a hang-off from being a spy during the war) but for some reason, her brain refused to settle in Cambridge. She longed for her cottage, for her tea kettle and her things. She'd taken the photograph books she'd collected, and her memory box but it didn't feel right yet. It seemed to unsettle Sarah too.
She fussed around in Peggy's arms and started to cry as she turned off the baby monitor. Bucky and Steve needed the rest, she decided. Tonight would be her turn. Peg bounced the baby in her arms and wandered around the house, down into the empty spaces so she wouldn't disturb anyone.
"Oh Mousey, what am I going to do with them all?" she said as she went into the kitchen to warm up a bottle of formula for her. "And with you, young lady. You are going to be pudgy if we keep doing these midnight feedings. What would your Grandmama say?" Peggy smiled at her daughter and smoothed down the wisps of her dark, dark hair. "She'd have doted on you, my darling. You are spoiled enough by everyone already. Don't think I don't know you have Daddy Bucky wrapped around your little finger."
The kettle boiled and Peggy decanted some hot water to warm up the formula, sinking into a kitchen chair while she waited.
