It hadn't taken long to find a good sized clearing, with a suitable tree to use as a target. He was sure there was some kind of range on the island by now, but the whole point of this was to not be around others. Despite what Maryanne, and even Marian had said, he didn't think he should subject others to his mood. On top of that, he was trying his damnedest to stop dwelling on it. For once, it was not something he could change. Not something he could fight his way out of. No matter how much he rebelled against it, it wasn't going to be changed. She had, one final time, made her choice. And the more he focused on it, the angrier it made him. It felt justified, right. But that didn't make it productive. And logically he knew that. But when it came to Marian, his head and his heart were not always in agreement. And no matter what else he did, he would have to find a way to come to terms with it.
Standing a good distance from the target, he lifted his bow. Drawing back the string, his focus was solely on the target in front of him. This was the only thing he'd come up with to drown out everything else. To reduce the focus of his world to a small section of bark on the trunk of the tree ahead of him. Released from the string, the arrow arced perfectly, landing in the trunk exactly where it had been intended, with the others that had gone before it. With a sigh, he lowered the bow to his side.
The truth was, he didn't know that this was working. He needed something more. He needed a sheriff to steal from. Unsuspecting nobles to rob. Villages to feed. He needed a purpose again. He just didn't know if here he would find one.
